You should be evaluated by your doctor for menorrhagia (heavy or prolonged period). The causes of menorrhagia include but are not limited to: Dysfunction of the ovaries. Uterine fibroids Polyps Adenomyosis. Intrauterine device (IUD) Ectopic pregnancy Cancer Some blood coagulation disorders Certain medications (blood thinners) Your primary care provider or gyn will evaluate you and perform examination and possible pelvic ultrasound, and a treatment plan can be established, which may include birth control pills to regulate your cycle. Why is a menstrual cycle called a period?

Occurs monthly

Menstrual_cycle
Colloquialisms are odd. Since menses occur about every 28 days in human females, there is a periodicity to them. It's an older term meaning regularly occurring. So one gets a period means its that time of the month for the periodic shedding of endometrial tissue absent a fetal implantation.

Can you have 2 menstrual cycle within a 1-month period?

Yes

A relatively recent study showed that some women have the potential for more that one ovulating periods in a given "cycle." It is not common. More likely is an alternative such as an infection or a polyp in the cervix or uterus or hormonal change. Generally these are benign and easily treated. Check with your doctor. An ultrasound may be appropriate. Pregnancy and ovulatory bleeds are possible.

Dr. Collin Smikle answered:

Can you tell me exactly when is the infertile period of menstrual cycle?

Menstrual cycles

Menstrual_cycle
The fertility window is greatest around the time of ovulation but can be from 5-7 days before to 2-3 days after your ovulation. Finding out about your fertile window requires you to monitor your menstrual cycles to see if you are ovulating at a consistent time each month and planning accordingly. However, you can still get pregnant if you ovulate outside the presumed window.

Why is my period later than normal and why is my menstrual cycle so sporadic?

See a Doctor

There maybe some hormonal imbalance going on which some lab tests can help determine. Also, stress and any changes in diet or lifestyle can affect menstrual cycles. There is something called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) that can lead to sporadic menses. See an OBGYN so that they can run labs, possible imaging, and take a thorough history and physical to help figure this out
