My baby is 11 weeks old, acid reflux, similac spit up for 5 weeks now. She has been vomiting curdled milk for 2 weeks now. Help!
It's normal: As soon as milk hits the acid in the stomach it curdles and smells terrible, but if your baby is happy, growing and has soft poops she doesn't need any medicine or a change in formula. It is only when babies are in pain from spitting up that we give antacid medicine and unfortunately it does not stop them from spitting up. Sitting her up for a half hour after she eats and burping well does help. ...Read more
Can a 6w baby choke on spit up or reflux? She coughs after swallowing and sometimes seems to gasp for air. She clears her throat even while sleeping.
Yes: This can be a serious condition, and yes, a baby can choke from reflux material. Raise head of crib/bassinette slightly and keep upright after feeds. Also, I would suggest you ask her pediatrician about a swallow study, where they actually watch with special formula as she feeds and swallows to see if any is going into her lungs and the whole swallowing mechanism is working right. ...Read more

My son is 6 weeks old. It seems mostly at night he occasionally has reflux without spit up. He will make a gulping sound and then screems. Is it reflux?
Temporary discomfort: If it is just a "gulping" and a "brief scream" you may not need to do anything. It is possible he has some gerd, but seemingly not significant. Gulping likely means he breathes in too quickly and swallowed some air causing some distention of esophagus which causes some discomfort, but once that is passed to the stomach, he is then ok. Feeding normally and gaining wt then ok. Consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more

My 3mo old is spitting up clear liquid. Also, tends to be mucusy, curdled, and normal spit up. Could this be acid reflux? She is on Nutramigen.
Possible: Most babies have some reflux particularly with burping or a full stomach. The kind of formula has no effect. As long as there is no blood or pain and your baby is thriving it doesn't create a problem.
