What are the long-term effects of atrovent nasal spray? I have used for 10 yrs. This past yr, I have experienced reduced urine flow. Is it related?

Possible: Atrovent (ipratropium) (ipratroprium) has been available for quite a long while. It has a low side effect profile. Although I can't say for sure it very unlikely that after 10 years you will begin to have any secondary effects. Like any anti-cholinergic medicine it can cause urinary retention. This is much more common in men, especially if they have protate hyper trophy. There are other meds you can switch. ...Read more

No one can tell: A smelly urine is probably due to infection, but not necessarily. If there is infection however, the only reliable way to sort the type of infection out is to do urine culture. The so called empiric treatment is usually tried in simple cases, without culture, targeting a group of possible bacterial organisms depending on the scenario e.g. Older vs younger sexually active persons. ...Read more

Doubt a problem: I doubt this is the problem but why did you have the procedure? This is something you can discuss with your physician if you're not having any symptoms there's probably little to worry about. If you had symptoms I would wonder about a blood clot and obstruction or a kidney stone then moved and obstruction. ...Read more

Refocus: Your creatinine levels are fine. The increase may be due to your putting on some muscle or having taken some medication or being dried out. Of course you urinate less when you're stomach's upset -- you drink less water. You also describe B12 deficiency -- this is a VERY serious problem that needs to be addressed. Pernicious anemia? Ill-advised vegetarianism? Work on the big issues here. ...Read more
