TO KNIFE A NAIL BED: Sounds like a repeat procedure may be coming, especially if there is some toe nail left. Sometimes: It takes a while for the redness to go away. Your child is obviously responding to the medication if the pain is gone. If the redness is not gone after a week call the doctor but it sounds as if everything is going to be ok. I usually recommend soaking 3 times a day in a packet of domeboro solution dissolved in water. It seems to heal faster. Good luck. ...Read more

Not a problem: If there is a purple spot in the large toe nail it probably means trauma. The timing must be identical to occur in the same location under the nail. The purple spot is most likely old blood under the nail and will go away as the nail grows out.
