Can you use red wine vinegar to detox?

What is detox?

Doctors
IN the sense that doctors say "detox", no, vinegar does not accelerate removal of any toxins out of the body. There is also "cosmetic" detox which no one (including its practitioners) ever tried to test for any effect whatsoever.

Dr. Robert Kent answered:

Can drinking red wine vinegar burn fat?

Not really

Burns
First, drinking large amounts of vinegar can lead to possibly severe kidney damage, so do not drink more than what you would put on a salad or in a recipe at one time. As a small about as a dietary supplement, it has been hypothesized that vinegar supplements can burn endogenous stores of fats, but it does not. It may be healthy in small amounts and break up undigested fats, but does not burn fat.

Before and after it ruptures / resolves without rupturing, soap and water. Remember it's a battleground between your white cells and some bacteria that got an advantage. Consider a trial of benzoyl peroxide even if you do not have bad acne.

Dr. Randy S. Baker answered:

What are the health benefits of having red wine?

Has antioxidants

Alcohol
There is evidence that those who have about 1 drink of alcohol a day have better health than those who don't drink at all or who drink larger amounts, with lower risk of heart disease, cancer & Alzheimer's. Red wine may be the healthiest choice because it contains proanthocyanidans, which are antioxidant flavonoids. See http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/19/red-wine-health_n_1018934.html

How much red wine should I drink each day to get the health benefits?

Well.............

Alcohol
Health benefits of alcohol intake include wine, beer and liquor (not including what you mix it in). Red wine is not significantly better. Studies show that people who drink 1-2 standard size beverages a day have better cardiovascular outcomes than those who do not. One standard beverage is 12 oz beer, 5 oz wine, or 1.5 oz liquor. Any day with more than 2 is not as good, so more is not better.
