A swollen tonsil: A unilateral swollen tonsil may be indicative of a unilateral infection. If it remains swollen for at least 2 to 3 weeks more I would see your primary care physician to establish a cause. Can't be certain: One can think of infection, are you in bleeding from a blood vessel. You don't describe blood. The redness suggest a lot of vascular congestion. This could be a large vein. You need to discuss this with your physician. ...Read more

Probably traumatic: First thought was the child had something jabbed into their mouth (siblings r common culprits). You mention there was removal of candy from her mouth by a parent. Likely some trauma to the mucosa in the area during this maneuver. Other possibilities would include viral or bacterial infection. I would have her checked out. If no serious injury then short course of steroids may help with swelling. ...Read more

Sore throat: It could be especially if there is alot of pus but it is much more likely to be from another bacteria. If it is on one side it could be an abscess and that needs drainage since antibiotics are less likely to work. All and all a trip to the MD is in order. ...Read more
