Red Swollen Middle Toe
What is wrong with the base of big toe. So much pain, redness, swollen, can't really walk on it and it keeps cracking and popping when I do walk on it?
Hallux Limitus: Hallux limitus is a painful arthritic condition of the big toe joint where the toe meets the foot. Cortisone injections, icing, antiinflammatories, and orthotics are very helpful. Ultimately you may need surgery to clean out the joint and decompress the joint for more motion. You may also be suffering from an acute gout attack of the joint. The treatment is similar. 48 hrs ago I developed severe toe pain with swelling & redness. It's still swollen & red, but not very painful. Should I see a doctor? Ddx?
1out of 3 ain't bad.: As with most conditions developing into a painful, swollen and red condition, knowing the proximal clinical history is necessary to determine the cause, problem and solution. The good thing is that at least the pain appears to be resolving. Give the toe a little more time to see if the redness and swelling also reduce. If things don't improve, then a foot specialist may be the next person to see. ...Read more

Watch the Wound.: I'm not sure if you are describing the wound as having a red dot or the spider as having a red dot. The initial treatment is to clean the wound with soap and water, apply a topical antibiotic and light dressing. An ice or cold pack helps with the swelling and pain. Shoes or Toes.: The first thing to do is find the cause of the redness and swelling. Since it involves both little toes, my first guess is that your shoes have something to do with it. Of course, the other way to look at it is that your toes are to big. The solution is to change the style of the shoes or change the style of the toes. See a rheumatologist: Gout is still one possibility. Sometimes the uric acid in the blood is falsely low during an attack. Other types of arthritis can mimic gout. Please see a rheumatologist. ...Read more
