No treatment?: Swollen tonsils are not treated unless they are extremely enlarged and cause then swallowing problems! In those cases a small trial of corticosteroids is warranted like Medrol Pak !

Viral : Viral upper respiratory tract infections usually last 7-10 days or should at least be improving by then. You may be a bit early yet. The chance of having strep throat after a tonsillectomy is quite low. It sounds like you are doing everything possible for symptom management. If you go 10 days without improvement, you should see a doc. ...Read more

Symptomatic care: Most sore throat are viral in origin.
If the strep throat is negative too, you would need lots of symptomatic care.
Take lots of fluids to drink and tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain.
But again you will have to give it some time to get better.
One final thing - if your throat is coated with whitish exudate and you throat still hurts by 7-10 days and you are feeling tired, it might prudent to check for mono. ...Read more

Sore throat: It could be especially if there is alot of pus but it is much more likely to be from another bacteria. If it is on one side it could be an abscess and that needs drainage since antibiotics are less likely to work. All and all a trip to the MD is in order. ...Read more

Hard to tell: Although it is unlikely that they are related, it is also impossible to rule out such a probability without more information and possibly testing. The yellowish stuff in the lesion is suggestive of an infection and thus you need to see your doctor about this problem. ...Read more

Maybe strep, viral..: Throat symptoms may be due to strep throat, viruses, allergies, etc... If symptoms only last 1-2 days, it was more likely allergies, irritation, or a mild cold. Doctors have rapid 5-minute tests for strep, so a primary care doctor can diagnose strep and start antibiotics within the first few days of symptoms. The same germs can infect the throat, regardless of whether a person has tonsils or not. ...Read more

Enlarged red tonsil: Tonsils are part of the immune system & can be affected by virus, bacteria, allergies. If tissue around tonsil is inflamed, see doc right away as may have peritonsillar abscess. Viral infxn (mononucleosis) usually associated w/ swollen glands. Allergies normally would affect both sides. Try gargling with warm salt water.
