Carpal : Carpal tunnel is only one of many wrist maladies my patients come to talk to me about when their hands hurt. Classically, however, carpal tunnel doesn't exactly present the way you've described. If you wanted to try a wrist brace at night to see if it improves, it wouldn't hurt you, nor put you at greater risk for delaying a proper diagnosis. It sounds more like you have a chronic tendinitis, or possibly arthritis. A doctor can order the right kind of imaging to figure that out, and this is the kind of thing that improves a great deal in physical therapy. Sometimes i recommend anti-inflammatory meds if there are no contraindications in your case to use them. There is also now an anti-inflammatory gel that is helpful, although it's expensive if your insurance doesn't cover it (diclofenac gel). ...Read more

My ankles and knees are very swollen and hurt. My left wrist is also sore. My mouth is extremly dry. Should i go to ER ?

Swollen joints: If one joint was swollen, i would be more likely to recommend er evaluation to rule out septic arthritis; a bad infection that attacks a joint. In your case, you are having pain in multiple joints all over the body. This is more likely indicating a systemic type of arthritis. I would advise evaluation by either your primary physician or a rheumatologist. ...Read more
