Sores, roof of mouth: This is most likely a manifestation of the presence of a virus. Other less likely possibilities would be Streptococcal infection, or thrush. Evaluation by a physician will lead to a rapid accurate diagnosis.

Mouth Sores (Definition)

A canker sore is a painful, open sore in the mouth. Canker sores are white or yellow and surrounded by a bright red area. They are benign (not cancer). Canker sores can run in families. They may also be linked to problems with the body's immune (defense) system. The sores may occur after a mouth injury due to dental work, aggressive tooth cleaning, or biting the tongue or cheek. Canker sores can be triggered by emotional stress, dietary deficiencies (especially iron, folic acid, or vitamin B-12), menstrual periods, hormonal changes, food allergies, and similar situations. They occur most commonly with viral infections. In some cases, the cause can not be identified. Treatment is usually not necessary. In most cases, the canker sores ...Read more

Mouth sores, roof of mouth, could be from low iron? Iwas recently diagnosed anemic

Mouth sores, roof of mouth, could be from low iron? Iwas recently diagnosed anemic

Possibly: Sores in the mouth could be from a viral infection, a burn, trauma, or vitamin deficiency. I would discuss this with your primary provider who diagnosed your anemia, to further understand why you are anemic in the first place.

I had a single small red/white bump on soft palate for a couple days and its gone. In HIV mouth sores, would there only be one or would it be more?

I had a single small red/white bump on soft palate for a couple days and its gone. In HIV mouth sores, would there only be one or would it be more?

More than one likely: There are more than one type or mouth sores usually related to hiv. Most have more to do with being immunosupressed- like candidiasis (ulcers caused by yeast infections), cold and herpetic ulcers as well as leukoplakia ("hairy tounge"). The onset of a single small lesion that has healed is not an indicator that you have contracted hiv. If you are still fearful, the best remedy is testing.

I have a small red bump on the roof of my mouth, it occurred a few hours after I gave my boyfriend head the first time. I've always had cold sores.

Unlikely related: Sexually transmitted diseases may spread this way, but it is extremely unlikely that any symptoms or signs of such disease would manifest within just a few hours. It is much more likely to bet the beginning of a cold sore or something else.

Sounds like: It could be a Herpes virus infection..... would suggest your "friend" have an "intimate" conversation with her PCP about these "cankers"! There is medication for such lesions! Hope this helps! Dr Z

Can happen: Due to incomplete resolution of whatever infection you had, most likely a viral one, or re-infection with another microorganism, at any rate use salt water gargles, and use whatever you used the first time, if it doesn't work, see your doctor

Diagnosis\treatment?: These situations require you see a dentist for a complete medical and dental history and clinical exam. We can't diagnose or treat you over the internet. Merely mentioning some possibilities regarding diagnosis would be a disservice to you. Please schedule an appointment for proper care and advice.

Causes of redness on roof of mouth??? And appropriate treatment for it??

Causes of redness on roof of mouth??? And appropriate treatment for it??

Depends: Treatment depends on the cause and I regret that it is not feasible to discern the cause without examining you. Did you burn/scald the roof of your mouth? You may wish to wait it out. If it is not better in a couple of weeks, please consult a doctor in-person.

Purplelish, redness on roof of mouth, symmetrical on both sides. Irritated by eating hard foods. Also fullness in both ears and stuffy nose in morning?

A Brief Reminder:: I'll be brief: If you really have purpleish blotches on the roof of your mouth that won't go away in, say, 1-2 weeks or are getting worse before then (check the rest of your body too) then get to a doctor and have them looked at. They could indicate a number of potential problems that would require immediate attention. Don't freak, just watch, then do.

Palate discoloration: This can be several things. It depends on where on your palate the discoloration is and their relation to the mouth sores. What color the mouth sores are, how large they are, what is the color, etc. It is best to get this examined while they are prominent and easily seen.

Candida or!??: It could be candidiasis, pemphigus vulgaris, pemphigoid or acute herpatic gingivostomatitis. Do you have fever, headache and malaise. Please get a checkup and some urine and blood analysis if possible for candida antibodies. It is hard to diagnose your case because of the similarities of symptoms with other cases.

I have painful mouth sores on my tongue and inside cheeks. Sometimes have a small white/yellow bubble and are always red. Low iron and b12.

Probably not main ca: The probable cause is probably viral. They could be caused by stress and therefore b 12 may help. See your dentist if there over 5 days. They may resolve on there own and stay away from acidic juices and foods.

My 2 yr daughter has a fever and has swollen lymph nodes and red throat with white spots and now has mouth sores. Does that sound like strep throat?

Maybe: This can be strep throat or a viral pharyngitis (such as coxsackie). She should be seen by her doctor and have a strep test done to determine if this is strep throat.

Seasonal flu: Is very common viral infection. Usually the condition resolves on its own with home care. Drink water and get a good rest. NSAIDs (e.g. Aleve, Advil) or Tylenol (acetaminophen) are also recommended every 6 hours. If concerned, see your PCP for examination.

Oral petechiae: This could be "petechiae" which are microscopic areas of bleeding. Petechiae are usually caused by trauma, infection, bleeding abnormalities, and often get better on their own within a few weeks without treatment. If it doesn't resolve on its own then you may want to see a doctor.
