Hair loss 6mos ago followed by scalp being sore, red, itchy for past 3mos. Scalp now is painful w red bumps all over. My derm did not know what to do?

Tough to diagnose: This is hard to diagnose without actually seeing it in person. My best guess, though, is that she has seborrheic dermatitis. If I am right, this can respond nicely to dandruff shampoos, particularly one with selenium sulfide. Look at history: You may have symptoms of burning itching, flakes, oily, red bumps today, but it may have been as a result of something that you've been using on your scalp recently. So a good history of the products you have used on your scalp for conditioning, shampoo, coloring, oil treatments can cause a dermatitis to show up.
