Alopecia is the loss of hair. Hair loss can be caused by different reasons, including damage to the hair shaft or follicles. Fungal infections can also cause hair loss. There are two main types of alopecia. Alopecia areata occurs when the body's immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair to fall out. Androgenetic alopecia, on the other hand, is an inherited form of hair loss. With alopecia areata, hair can fall out in patches all over the body. With androgenetic alopecia, hair on the head thins and falls out. In men, this is called male pattern hair loss; in women, it is called female diffuse hair loss. Look at history: You may have symptoms of burning itching, flakes, oily, red bumps today, but it may have been as a result of something that you've been using on your scalp recently. So a good history of the products you have used on your scalp for conditioning, shampoo, coloring, oil treatments can cause a dermatitis to show up. Tough to diagnose: This is hard to diagnose without actually seeing it in person. My best guess, though, is that she has seborrheic dermatitis. If I am right, this can respond nicely to dandruff shampoos, particularly one with selenium sulfide. Another possibility is contact dermatitis where she is sensitive to something you are putting on her scalp. Other possibilities also exist. ...Read more

For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats.
