Tough to diagnose: This is hard to diagnose without actually seeing it in person. My best guess, though, is that she has seborrheic dermatitis. If I am right, this can respond nicely to dandruff shampoos, particularly one with selenium sulfide. Benedryl: Benadryl or the generic called "diphenhydramine" is often the drug store's own brand of allergy medicine. ? folliculitis: It sounds like folliculitis, a bacterial infection of the scalp similar to acne. If you look close you may see a pustule when they first break out. I would go see a dermatologist for a definitive diagnosis and treatment options. ...Read more
Hemangiomas?: It is difficult to tell what your baby has without further detail/exam, but my suspicion is that he/she has some hemangiomas (collection of blood vessels). They often can enlarge/more numerous during the first year or so and slowly subside, often completely gone by 5 yrs of age. If baby has been seen regularly by doc, I would assume that it is hemangioma and no need 2 worry. Consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more

Tonight my scalp suddenly became oily, itchy, burning, flakes, and red bumps. It happened very fast but nothing was near my hair today. Any ideas?
Look at history: You may have symptoms of burning itching, flakes, oily, red bumps today, but it may have been as a result of something that you've been using on your scalp recently. So a good history of the products you have used on your scalp for conditioning, shampoo, coloring, oil treatments can cause a dermatitis to show up. Best to have your doctor examine it, and recommend treatment. ...Read more
