Red Bottom Eyelid
I have a bad flu, UTI and an itchy red swollen bottom inner eyelid?! is this some sort of infection? No pain, just itchy. What is it and what should I do?
Viral conjunctivitis: Is the most likely cause of your symptoms. The flu virus got into your eyes. If your vision is not affected then just keep the eyes clean and comfortable with chilled artificial tears (but not "get the red out" drops). Change your pillowcase and towels frequently and wash your hands often since you are contagious until the redness is gone. ...Read more

Tiny bump on right bottom eyelid. Very painful to close eye or touch. No redness or swelling just very painful.
My bottom eye lid is swollen. No redness only slight discomfort. Should I be concerned? I use ointment in my bottom eyelid at night for dry eye.
Possible concern: Dry eye is common, can respond well to ointment but does not cause eyelid swelling. Is the tenderness at one spot or diffuse? Is there a palpable nodule? Is this short term or has it been there awhile? Try using very warm washcloths 4-5 times a day on the lid and if it disappears, it was likely a stye. If still present after 4-5 days, have an ophthalmologist look at it. ...Read more

Stye?: If this little eyelid bump is on the margin or slightly inside, it may be a blocked oil gland (stye). These are generally sore to touch and may drain, which if into the eye, may cause redness, mattering & blurry vision. Some result in significant eyelid swelling. Apply warm compresses 2-4 times /day followed by gently massaging the area. Most resolve in 7-10 days. If not or worse, See an Eye MD. ...Read more

Oil gland problem: This could be a problem with the oil glands along the margin of the eyelids. They can be inflammed (blepharitis) or drain poorly (meibomian gland disease). An eyecare specialist should see you, but typically hot compresses and lid cleansing (baby shampoo) can help. ...Read more

What's causing red blood shot dry eyes with constant hard crust in eyes with bumps top and bottom of eyelid?
Blepharitis: I see you posted several questions about lid darkness, irritated eyes, etc. Lid margin disease can exacerbate dry eye and cause redness of both the lids and eyes. Also causes crusting. This is one of 3 things, allergic conjunctivitis, bacterial conjunctivitis, or viral conjunctivitis. All three can have similar findings to what you describe in your daughter.
Allergies tend to last for weeks at a time if untreated and usually feature itching and white-ish mucous. Cool compresses and artificial tears can help, but often a prescription eyedrop is needed.
Bacterial conjunctivitis is more commonly seen in only one eye, but can be in both. Eyes tend to be red, with greenish discharge. Usually this will resolve within 5 days without treatment, more quickly if antibiotic drops are used.
Viral conjunctivitis tends to affect both eyes, and there are usually complaints of cold symptoms or sore throat. Treatment is for symptoms only, the virus has to 'run its course'. Cool compresses and tears plus other over the counter drops may give relief. The main goal in these patients is to try not to give it to the rest of the family, since it is very contagious.
An ophthalmologist can usually see differences and help you sort out the problem and the proper treatment. Find a local eye doctor to examine her! ...Read more
