Haven't been able to go #2 w/out having to strain really hard for about a year. Today I had lots of bright red blood when I wiped an in the tiolet?
Probably a fissure: You do need to be evaluated, but my guess is that you have a rectal fissure (tear) from all that straining. Keep your bowel movements softer by increasing your fluid and fiber intake. You may want to try an over-the-counter stool softener. Your doctor will check for causes of constipation, including low thyroid. Although a tiny amount of blood can look impressive in the bowl, go to er if severe. ...Read more

Exam needed: Blood in the stool is abnormal and must be checked out by a physician. In your case hemorrhoids are the most likely problem, but anorectal fissure, inflammatory disease of the rectum and colon and, of course, growths in the rectocolon area needed to be ruled out. In the meantime take a stool softener and use a rectal glycerin suppository to make it easier to move your bowels. Go to the ER as needed ...Read more
