Yes, you can wait: Try hot salt water gargle. Alternate with straight 3% hydrogen peroxide gargle. Also, try an over the counter cough drop (Hall's, Cepacol, etc) to ease the discomfort. High-dose Vitamin D3 may help--I recommend 10,000 IU/day, until you are well. Then cut to 5,000 IU per day.
