They were once used in overdoses and poisonings, but there are way too many complications including injury to the esophagus, aspiration, and typically did not resolve the ingestion. Not recommended.: We do not currently recommend inducing vomiting after eating expired or spoiled food. In the past syrup of ipecac was used, but it has been found to be in advisable.
