Not very useful: Rectal prolapse when the last portion of the large intestine protrudes through the anus. Hemorrhoids are swollen blood vessels that develop in the anus and lower rectum. Early rectal prolapse can mimic internal hemorrhoids making it difficult to tell these. Probably best test is to have a colorectal surgeon conduct exam by bearing down to show the prolapse.
