I had my first routine colonoscopy at 54 years old, and I have had intense itching of the anus since the colonoscopy. Can you tell me the cause?
Inflammation: It would help to know how long this has been going on, but I can give you some generalities. The scope itself can cause irritation or very minor injury; the lubricant may be something your skin is sensitive to; you may have some hemorrhoids that the scope caused to "act up." Generally, doctors schedule a follow up to discuss the results. I recommend you bring this up at that time. ...Read more

How long do Hemorrhoids(Internal) take to heal?I had itching recently, and today had bits of blood on stool (already had Colonoscopy).Doesn't hurt much
Can take up to 2 wks: Most important, is prevention of these hemorrhoids. Often times it comes as a result of constipation, or not drinking enough liquids. If you're using any prescription like Proctofoam HC right now to bring relief, that will get you through this healing. However, the best advice is to do regular exercise like walking, eating a high-fiber diet, drinking enough liquids, and not holding your stool in, and pooping at least 2 to 3 times a day. This would help in your preventive efforts. ...Read more

Hemorrhoids: There are three steps to self treating hemorrhoids (blood clots in the rectal veins). 1. Soak: keep the area clean so that infection doesn't set in. 2. Soften your stool: keep from bearing down hard when having a bm so that the clot doesn't grow 3. And finally, steroids to shrink up the inflammation. Now the steroid that you need may be prescription strength. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Perhaps food allergy: To find out which food is causing the itch, you will probably need an allergist. You can try an elimination diet, food skin tests or blood tests for food to narrow down what you are eating that you are allergic to. If it happens after every meal, it is likely to be a staple food like wheat, milk or egg, so you are being exposed every time you eat. Quantities that seem small are huge to your cells. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Had a colonoscopy yesterday, removed four polyps, one of which had to be clip, how long dose the clip stay in?also not feeling 100% lot of rectal press.
Clip will pass: The clip on the stalk of a polyp will fall off after a few weeks. It will likely pass without you knowing about it. The rectal pressure after colonoscopy is due to irritation of the rectal canal from manipulating the colonoscope during the procedure. It should resolve within a day or two after the procedure. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Colonoscopy is it!: For common rectal or anal problems such as rectal bleeding or pain, a full colonoscopy is commonly "routine" at age 53.
