All : All recoveries vary enormously, depending on many factors. Certainly this is affected by the severity of the infection and how the appendix was removed. Even the definition of "recover" varies: for a desk job it may be a few days but for a job with heavy lifting (i think of roofers) it may be a few weeks. I have never given a patient a timetable for activities as it is impossible to predict the recovery. Pain: Depends how how sick your appendix was(whether perforated or not) and how your surgery was done(open or laparoscopically). In general for laparoscopic appendectomy for nonperforated appendicitis, expect 2-3 days of pain that requires narcotic pain meds, then soreness for 2-3 weeks.
