Does alcohol increase or decrease methylation? The reason I am asking is after i drink moderately, at night, i feel so much better in the a.M.
Possibly decrease: Ethyl alcohol, the kind people drink is not a methyl doner. And actually increase the risk of other deficiencies of methy doners such as folate (folic acid) or b12. Even by other means i would suspect it decreases healthy methylation, as even moderate use is associate with increase of certain cancers such as breast, liver and colon. Not sure why you feel better, but it may not be lasting. ...Read more
How long of abstinence from alcohol will give a normal CDT test level. I need this to regain my driving licence?
NinetyDaysToFreedom: The half-life of Carbohydrate-Deficient Transferrin (CDT, the substance tested in the CDT Test) is on average 17 days. And it takes about 5 half-lives to get near zero, assuming you stopped all alcohol intake. A half- life is the time for the amount to halve (duh). So 5X17=85 days so round up to 90 days or three months.Suggestion, at that point you'll be well on your way to having stopped drinking! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

You may simply have a bit of fat in the liver and for this the best rx is usually getting back to your fitness-focused lifestyle. ...Read more

Hello, my MCV lvl is 36.8. Everything else is normal. I was stung by a bee and i went to the doctor.I drank alot before. Could alcohol be the reason?
Your MCHC, perhaps?: Your MCV isn't 36. If this is your MCHC, it's very slightly above most labs' reference ranges, and since these ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either side, I wouldn't give it another thought. ...Read more

I have bowel movements about 6x a day and feel really tired , what can be the reason for this? I have not been drinking a lot of alcohol
Many possible causes: Many things can damage intestines including antibiotics, allergy, diet, tumor, autoimmune disease causing diarrhea as well as abnormal bowel function such as irritable bowel syndrome. Fluid or blood loss may cause weakness/anemia. Bananas, applesauce, and rice slow diarrhea and you must hydrate. If you have blood/severe pain see your primary doctor asap who may refer you to a gastroenterologist. ...Read more
I have sgot 1061 and sgpt 1116. Done all tests for hepatitis. All negative. No jaundice. And i also don't consume alcohol. So wht can b the reason?
This is very serious: You have Wilson's disease until proved otherwise. The lab diagnosis of this is very tricky. If not, you have hemochromatosis or autoimmune hepatitis until proven otherwise. If you are taking any medications, you need to look at whether you're allergic -- "natural herbal holistic" medicines are often not what they're supposed to be. Or you may have non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. Consider biopsy. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
