Maybe not kidney: I assume you are referring to right sided back pain. If stones ruled out by plain X-ray then it may still be kidney pain due to UPJ obstruction,then get ultrasound and possibly CT with contrast. If a renal cause is definitely ruled out then it is possibly musculoskeletal.Talk it over with you doctor.Best of luck. ...Read more

Here are some...: Almost always, a large simple cyst of kidney alone will not burst or cause pain. To deduce if the pain is related with this cyst, a detailed Hx & proper physical exam before timely imaging study are needed. The only way to prove if the cyst is cyst-related is see how your pain may evolve and resolve after cyst-related surgery. So, ask doc timely as needed. ...Read more

May be... and...: Do you mean severe sharp but intermittent pain? The expected post-operative pain in the incision will usually &gradually fades within 2-4 weeks although that in few may last and linger to a highly variable duration. But if the pain after incisional pain described is intermittent, sharp, unpredictable, or physically related, one needs to think about possible nerve entrapment-related pain. Ask doc. ...Read more

Stone: I would suggest a urinalysis and an exam to make sue you don't have a UTI. You may need an X-ray to make sure it's not a new or residual stone. Also you should have a CT Urogram or IVP if you've never had one to make sure there are no anatomical issues. ...Read more
