Reason For High 2 Hour Glucose Results
Fasting gluc & HgA1C are borderline (high normal). But my 2 hour post prandial levels are great (always under 120). Which test is most significant?
Tests: JimM628 ~ both are. You have mild or pre-diabetes depending on specific blood levels in tests. You MUST lose weight if you are over weight. ADD in some exercise but get stress ECG first. The blood sugar concentration or blood glucose level is the amount of glucose (sugar) present in the blood of a human or animal. The body naturally tightly regulates blood glucose levels as a part of metabolic homeostasis. Glucose is the primary source of energy for the body's cells, and blood lipids (in the form of fats and oils) are primarily ...Read more
I am prediabetic with higher blood sugar and insulin levels. L just had a 3 hour glucose tolerance test. Fasting sugar is 63, insulin is 2. Meaning?
Doesn't matter: The numbers aren't really important or valuable. If you're overweight and have high glucose (particularly with a positive family history) you need education, diet, exercise, weight reductio and maybe medication -- not just a diagnosis. The diagnosis doesn't help you get healthier. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
High normal fasting gluc and HgA1c. Normal 2 hour post prandial readings. Can fatty liver be causing my "pre-diabetic" state?

What should normal blood sugar levels be, for fasting, 1 hr and 2 hr post prandial during pregnancy? Is 124 at one hour pp normal?
Blood sugar: The normal fasting blood sugar is lower during pregnancy. The fasting blood sugar should be less than 95 mg/dL. The one hour post prandial blood sugar should be less than 140 mg/dL and the two hour post prandial blood sugar should be less than 120 mg/dL. So a measurement of 124 mg/dL at one hour post prandial is normal. ...Read more
Is 11 hours fasting fine for fasting blood sugar level test or is too much and will give inaccurate reading or lesser reading?
Sounds fine: A variety of blood tests gives more accurate results if the patient has not eating food, drank beverages other than water, or taken certain medications that might influence test results. For checking fasting blood sugars, a patient can fast overnight (about 10 hours, but 8-12 hours should be fine) and then give his blood sample before taking his morning vitamins or medications. ...Read more
Been experiencing symptoms related to both high and low blood sugar levels. Just had a fbgt, fbg 111, 2 hr reading was 50. ?
Non diabetic. 4 recent blood tests. First 2 postprandial, last 2 fasting. Post glucose in 70s, fasting in 90s. Why would glucose be higher b4 food?
Morning glucose: Is due to glucose your liver puts out overnite and inbetween meals so that your sugar stays stable during these times. Also, you won't die of low glucose if fasting. After meal sugar is lower due to Insulin your body puts out to cover the meal. Don't worry, all your numbers are excellent and normal. ...Read more

Fasting glucose 85. then GTT hour 1glucose 84, hour 2 glucose 94. what would cause this odd response?
Normal variability: So for that test, you basically get a dose of glucose to see if your blood sugar remains elevated. Our bodies respond very quickly to glucose, meaning that it gets taken up by our muscles and liver almost immediately after it enters the blood stream. Our body's "thermostat" is set to keep the blood sugar level between 70-99. Over 100 indicates a problem with glucose metabolism. Yours is normal. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Is prediabetes confirmed with a fasting glucose over 6.0 mmol or do you need a high 2 hour post meal number in addition to confirm?
Impaired fasting glu: A fasting glucose above 5.6 mmol (100mg/dl) is considered abnormal. A level above 7 (125 mg/dl) is consistent with diabetes. You do not need to have a high 2 hr pp number to have impaired glucose tolerance. A 2 hr pp above 11.1 mmol (200 mg/dl) is also consistent with diabetes. However, these should be confirmed by a lab test, not fingerstick reading. ...Read more
Is 12 hours fasting fine for fasting blood sugar test or is it too much and will give lesser or inaccurate readings. ?
8 hours is typical: Some doctors recommend nothing but water for 12 hours, and suggest that you should avoid fatty meals for 24-48 hours prior. Some doctors no longer require fasting at all. It could be argued that fasting doesn't represent the amount of lipid that is typically present in the blood, so it is less useful to look at fasting measures. Others think the post meal measurements are misleading. 8 hrs is fine ...Read more
My fasting glucose is consistently 100-115, and yet post prandial 1 hr is 160, 2 hr is 86. Last vap showed negative for metabolic syndrome. Is this a result of nighttime glycogen dump, and if so, why? And why the normal post prandial?
Pre-diabetes: People with pre-diabetes/early diabetes can produce higher level of Insulin to keep bs somewhat adequate, sometimes they overshoot and can cause subsequent low blood sugar after a meal, especially if it's a high carbohydrate meals. As of now, you have impaired fasting sugar which is a form of pre-diabetes. You might need a hba1c test (blood test) to see your overall level of glucose control. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

My blood test showed CRP as 0.2 mmole/l. Is this low, normal or high? Would fasting without food or water for about 13 hrs prior affect the results?
C-reactive protein: Always get reference range w/your lab result so that you can tell whether you're low, normal or high. Reference ranges depend upon lab equipment used as well as units.
