Reason For False Negative Results In Hiv Eclia Tests
After exposure, 3months HIV quali RNA test negative, not detected.4.5months HIV quick test and ELISA test negative. Are those tests all exclusive?
Hiv infection is caused by a retrovirus....This retrovirus binds to CD4 cells (for the most part). You may detect the virus by several different methods. An elisa test (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay). You may also detect it by doing a test referred to as a western blot (a gel protein electrophoresis). Thirdly by pcr (polymerase chain reaction) which ...Read more
Tested false positive ELISA HIV test last month. Negative ifa and western blot and naat. 2 negative oraquick all 1 1/2 year post exposure. Hiv?
Yes: There are 2 reasons for this kind of result: (1) a false positive, or (2) early infection before seroconversion. In someone at low risk for HIV without symptoms, another negative WB in 1 month means there's no infection. In someone at risk or with symptoms of acute infection, a viral load can be helpful. The new 4th generation antigen/antibody tests will eliminate this problem. ...Read more

Can negative test results be trusted for a prostitute with HIV antibody rapid test and HIV duo test?
Can HCV co-infection affect the accuracy of HIV rapid test results? If HIV and HCV antibodies tests are negative at 5 months, are HIV results accurate
It shouldn't: Antibody tests are specific for the antibodies being tested for, so hcv antibodies shouldn't have an effect on HIV antibody tests. If you've tested negative at 5 months, i don't see why those results wouldn't be accurate, but if you want to be sure, you can always wait another 4-6 months and have the HIV test repeated. ...Read more

HIV test negative 8 months with Architect™ analyzer and confirmed with western blot test. What are the chances it will turn positive?
Tested positive on the ELISA test for hsv2, a month later tested negative via western blot 2 years after possible exposure . Which test to believe?
Both!: ELISA is very sensitive and sometimes gives a false positive. Interfering substances in serum can make the test look positive. On the other hand, Western Blot is very specific. It does not light up unless you really have antibodies to HSV. So, both tests were "right" , but the Western blot indicates that you do not have the antibody to HSV and have not been exposed. ...Read more
Will htlv affect my HIV antibody test? My antibody test for HIV came out negative. Is this accurate or will htlv make a false negative?
True or False Test?: A "false negative" test means the presence of a "confounding variable" that invalidates the test because it nullifies a test that would probably be positive if the variable were absent, like a brochodilator medicine (e.g.various inhalers and pills for asthma). So the test should be done in the absence of those medications, if possible-or-used as a validation as to the medication's effectiveness. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
2 false pos ELISA HIV tests, all 1 1/2 years post exposure. Neg western blot, ifa, naat and 2 neg oraquick home tests. What is my HIV status? Help!
Likely negative: There is typically a "window" of 3-6 months after exposure where you could be HIV positive but test negative. Since you didn't get your testing until well after that, i'd say the confirmatory tests (western blot, ifa) are what you should go by. The elisa is very sensitive and can have false positives- that's why we rely on the confirmatory tests. I would consider your status to be negative. ...Read more
Hiv DNA PCR dectected on 4/08/13 and antibody negative.Still now 6/3/13 8 weeks later still show HIV anitbody negative. What are your thoughts? Is the PCR a false positive?
Not necessarily: Is it really the dna or the RNA pcr? The dna qualitative pcr is the most sensitive test and may become positive months before antibody is detected. The quantitative RNA pcr that is used for monitoring also becomes positive early. Antibodies may not develop until 3 months from the infection. So, they may still develop. If you have not seen a HIV physician and are not on art, see one asap. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
