At what point after completing my Rx for strep do I need to consider mono and how bad would I be feeling if that was a concern?

At what point after completing my Rx for strep do I need to consider mono and how bad would I be feeling if that was a concern?

Anytime: Strep by itself should be improving with treatment within a week if not sooner. Part of the problem is that strep can co-exist with mono or other viral throat infections that may last longer (3wks +). Not that you can do much about it. Once you have reduced your risk of infecting others, the rest is focused on how to recover. ...Read more

How do symptoms differ between strep and mono? Presented in 2 yr old

How do symptoms differ between strep and mono? Presented in 2 yr old

Strep vs mono: The fact is that the symptoms of these two diseases are not distinguishable on clinical grounds. They both present with severe sore throat (of course a 2-year old can't tell you that, so they just fuss and refuse to eat), often fever, often upset stomach. Strep is diagnosed by a culture or antibody test (throat swab) and mono is diagnosed by a blood test called the "mono spot" test. ...Read more

Okay so my boyfriend just found out yesterday that he has mono and I've been kissing him before that. Do I have mono too? He has strep and mono. He didn't know he had mono until last night.

Hard to say: You likely did get strep, but the incubation period for mono is several weeks so time will tell. Like strep it is passed in saliva, so you were exposed. Many adults had mono as kids when it is usually not diagnosed specifically because it is mild & seldom differs from common viruses in its pattern. You can go see if you got strep & get treated. You can't do anything about the mono exposure. ...Read more

I have strep and mono with rash all over body if the rash is going away does that mean the strep and mono is going away too?

Amoxicillin?: Were you prescribed Amoxicillin for the strep throat? If so, the combination of a mono infection plus amoxicillin can cause a rash. Once you are done with the amoxicillin, the rash will subside. Alternatively, you can get a "sandpaper" rash from strep itself. That subsides when the strep infection is improving. Mono takes longer to get better - 4-6 weeks. ...Read more

I had strep and possibly mono 1mth ago shortly I developed what looked like heat rash, rash came wherever I scratched. What could it be??? I have pics

Many causes: Depends on a lot of factors, including whether you took antibiotics.

Mono itself can cause a sandpapery rash. Also being treated with Amoxicillin when you have mono commonly leads to a rash.

Strep can lead to rashes directly (e.g. guttate psoriasis), or later on via scarlet fever (which isn't common in adults in the US).

Also any time you get a fever, it's possible to get heat rash. ...Read more
