Rashes On Toddlers Bottoms Outside Of The Diaper Area
If my baby is getting rashes everywhere except his diaper area, could it be the detergent I'm using?
What are tha causes of fungal rash on my baby's diaper area? How would I know its a fungal rash compared to ordinary rashes
Red and itchy: Everyone has yeast that lives on the skin. But yeast particularly likes places that are damp and moist - like under a diaper. Keeping the skin cool and dry will help. You can also try an over-the-counter antifungal like Clotrimazole cream 3 times a day and see if that works. Yeast rashes are usually very red, itchy, and spread with "satellite" small red bumps away from the rash center. Good luck. ...Read more
My baby has rashes at her diaper area. I've tried drapolene cream and made her use cloth diapers. But the rash is still there?
Anti fungal: You need an anti fungal cream. Diaper rashes come from the same type of organism as jock itch and athletes foot. Using a steroid cream alone will not cure it. Contact your doctor for a different cream. Also try letting your baby have some time without a diaper on to keep the area free of moisture and friction from the diaper itself. ...Read more
Rash: Rashes can be from many things in the diaper area. If baby has other scaly patches, he might have eczema/atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. Sensitivities to the diaper occasionally cause irritated areas. Typical diaper rash from being in stool too long is usually more red, not as scaly. If unsure of the cause/treatment, see your doctor. Rashes cannot be diagnosed on the phone. ...Read more
My 6 month old has a rash everywhere but the diaper area. It's not the detergent. What else could it be? Is it possible her new clothes caused it?
Many possibilities: Think about whatever touches babies skin in those areas that does not touch the diaper zone. The sizing (color stabilizers) in newer clothing, the fabric softener or dryer sheet, lotions or ointments you might apply, etc. You often figure this out when you exclude allot her possibilities. It is unlikely to be a food issue as that can effect every skin surface. ...Read more
My 1 year old daughter have redness in diaper area, I think rash, applied rash cream but its not working even getng worse, this cream always worked?
Diaper rashes, yeast: Children are prone to yeast infections in the diaper region as a result of illness, recent antibiotic use, frequent diarrhea or chronic moisture under the diaper or underwear. Its usually appears as red itchy bumps, occassionally with fissures, inflammation and tenderness. These rashes do not improve with typical diaper rash creams (antifungal creams are used for treatment). ...Read more

Stop using diapers!: Diaper rash is not caused by urine or by stool, it is caused by diapers. Changing frequently and changing brands can help. In severe cases, put the baby on absorbent sheets and don't use a diaper at all until the rash is gone. It is messy, but it works. If the rash is already severe, you will need help from your babies doctor. ...Read more
My 19 months has had small red bumps in his diaper area for almost a week, and not improved with diaper rash cream. Now he has the same on his stomach?
May be yeast/candida: A trial of antifungal cream like lotrimin af cream otc (aka 1% clotrimazole) can be used to eliminate this rash. Apply twice daily and you should see improvements over the next week. Airing the area out-allowing the area to breath will facilitate improvement. I am assuming he is otherwise healthy without fever, etc... ...Read more

9 year old has almost like diaper rash on inside of bottom cheek...Been using a&d but still there. She uses flushable wipes to wipe after bowel moment?
Avoid wipes: Wipes do not necessarily "clean" your bottom and the chemicals may irritate the skin. Try a tub bath and plain dove soap. Rinse very well. Keep the area dry, use only cotton underwear. If it is itchy it may be yeast and you could try anti fungal creams. Be careful it does not look infected, it is "honey crusting" or developing areas that look pus filled, if that is the case see your doc asap. ...Read more

I have a 8 month old girl. She was very white when born. She started getting light brown patches on her diaper area and continued to get larger?
Yes/diaper years: Well checks target recognition of issues that may not be apparent to parents. During the diaper years male infants need to have the position of their testis verified, since they need to stay in the sac or be brought down if hiding in the groin or belly. Girls may have a fusion of the inner labia that can close over the pee hole and lead to UTI's.When out of diapers these issues have passed. ...Read more
My pediatrician doesn't check the diaper area for my baby during well baby visits. He doesn't check that area for my 7 year old either. Is that ok?
Depends: I expect a doc to do genital exams during infancy when rashes and other issues are more common. I do not expect genital exams on all kids for their checkups after they get past 4 or so, particularly if that doc has followed them from infancy. ...Read more
