Rash (Definition)

Most bumps and blotches on a newborn baby are harmless and clear up by themselves. By far the most common skin problem in infants is diaper rash. Diaper rash is an irritation of the skin caused by dampness, urine, or feces. Most babies who wear diapers will have some type of diaper rash. However, there are other skin disorders that can cause rashes. These are usually not serious unless ...Read more

Vaginal rash - six weeks ago - UTI turned into kidney infection - now have the same rash again but much worse - can it be another UTI and if so why?

Vaginal rash - six weeks ago - UTI turned into kidney infection - now have the same rash again but much worse - can it be another UTI and if so why?

Probably not: UTI does not cause rash in the vulva(I think you are referring to it as vagina). However, the antibiotic used for the UTI can give,as a side effect, a yeast infection in the vaginal area.If you are having no urinary symptoms,it is unlikely to be a UTI. You should be checked by your doctor or your gyn ,who will also check a urine sample and diagnose the rash. I hope this helps. ...Read more

On cipro (ciprofloxacin) for kidney infection had reaction so was changed to bactrim. Now having rash, shaking so switching it agin. Is it safe to keep switching?

Adverse reactions: Unfortunately, it IS necessary to change if now you're getting a rash reaction to Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) - which is a 'sulfa' drug. Knowing what the germ is and it's sensitivity profile would help select the right antibiotic for you -- as well as keeping in balance with your allergies/medical history. Usually I like to treat for 10 or 14 days for a kidney infection- so hopefully not that much treatment left.. ...Read more

I had a kidney infection recently. I have a red rash on my chest for over a year, butterfly shape. Recently hives & weight gain. Could it be lupus?

I had a kidney infection recently. I have a red rash on my chest for over a year, butterfly shape. Recently hives & weight gain. Could it be lupus?

Hard to say.: The butterfly rash from lupus is on the face not chest. A rash, kidney infection, hives and weight gain may or may not all be related. You need to be thoroughly evaluated, with appropriate testing, by your primary care doc. A referral can be done to an appropriate specialist, if indicated by the results of that work-up. ...Read more

Will omnicef work on kidney infection? Was switched to omnicef from bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds because of rash and shaking.

Will omnicef work on kidney infection? Was switched to omnicef from bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds because of rash and shaking.

Probably OK, but...: Bad luck with the allergic reactions. Antibiotic effectiveness for any infection depends on the bacteria causing it and which antibiotics are active against it. If you had a positive urine culture that was tested and found susceptible to cefdinir (Omnicef®), it will work well. If such testing wasn't done, you'll have to wait and see how it works. Discuss with the doc who prescribed it. Good luck! ...Read more

Kidney infection since march just fin 4th antibiotic last week now have rash on legs arms and joint pain feet hurt to walk on could this be connected?

RASH AND JOINT PAIN: IT SOUNDS LIKE A REACTION TO ONE OF THE ANTIBIOTICS. IT WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW THE NAMES OF THE DIFFERENT ANTIBIOTICS YOU HAVE BEEN TAKING. CHECK WITH YOUR PCP OR A DERMATOLOGIST. BEST LUCK! ...Read more
