Not sure of the: Context. Lyme disease is an infection. It can have a rash and would need treatment. Mostly people mean "I think I might have had lyme disease sometime in the past". And the organism would certainly be entirely gone with treatment. While one can have an injury from it, it is less likely to have rash from treated lyme than treated gunshot wound.

Autoimmune: Post-infectious sequelae can cause a variety of syndromes and symptoms, largely of the autoimmune etiology. CIDP is a possibility. Do you have reflexes? CIDP can be diagnosed with EMG/NCS. Did you have that? There are panels of antibodies associated with not only CIDP but also autoimmune dysautonomia, which is another consideration. Were these panels sent? Mayo has comprehensive panels. For dysautonomia testing, I would recommend tilt table and skin biopsy for small fiber neuropathy. Other considerations include myopathies, which can be metabolic or mitochondrial, and I would recommend EMG as well as possible muscle biopsy. ...Read more

What are the symptoms of new Lyme disease if you don't have a rash?

What are the symptoms of new Lyme disease if you don't have a rash?

Lyme disease: Lyme disease affects different areas of the body in varying degrees as it progresses. The site where the tick bites the body is where the bacteria enter through the skin. As the bacteria spread in the skin away from the initial tick bite, the infection causes an expanding reddish rash that is often associated with "flu-like" symptoms. Later, it can produce abnormalities in the joints, heart, nerve. ...Read more

Can a Lyme disease rash be as small as a half dollar coin and can it be more purplish than red?

Can a Lyme disease rash be as small as a half dollar coin and can it be more purplish than red?

Yes it could: A small red bump may appear at the site of the tick bite. This small bump is normal after a tick bite and doesn't indicate lyme disease. However over the next few days, the redness may expand forming a rash in a bull's-eye pattern with a red outer ring surrounding a clear area. The rash called erythema migrans is one of the hallmarks of lyme disease. Some people develop this rash at more areas. ...Read more

I have the bullseye rash around a tick bite but no other symptoms of Lyme disease. Should I still get a test done?

I have the bullseye rash around a tick bite but no other symptoms of Lyme disease. Should I still get a test done?

Get Rx & blood test!: A bullseye rash around a tick bite is considered proof of lyme disease. If you do not have symptoms yet, you almost certainly will over time. It takes time for a blood test to turn positive & you should not wait for this; the earlier you start treatment the better the outcome. Many lyme specialists advise Doxycycline 200 mg 2x/day for a month to be safe. Also get tested for co-infections like babesia. ...Read more

I have a bullseye rash around a tick bite but do not have any other symptoms of Lyme disease. Do I need to get a blood test?

Not just Lyme: Avoid being "lyme-centric"! depending on geography, there are several other tick borne diseases (e.g. Anaplasmosis, babesia, human monocytic or granulocytic erlichiosis) that co-infects with lyme (caused by b. Burgdorferi), or else, the diagnosis is something other than lyme (eg. Relapsing fever caused by b. Hermsii & southern tick -associated rash illness [stari] caused by a diffferent tick. ...Read more
