Three weeks ago i had a cathether removed from my chest & new one inserted. Several days later a rash appeared. Rash better but still itchy.
Dermatitis: Is there a dressing over the site? It probably is a allergic reaction to a product used to cover the site or cleanse the area. Some people develop sensitivity to these products. If the site looks red, hot and angry, this is a sign of a possible serious infection at the site and needs to be looked at. Is it normal to have a rash/bad rash on my breasts? I breastfeed and I just had my first child a month ago. I was just wondering if it's normal.
There : There are several possibilities for this one including fungal infection, yeast, or intertrigo (a condition of irritation in the groin). Other possibilities include eczema or psoriasis in the area. For "jock-itch", i often prescribe a mild Hydrocortisone cream twice daily combined with an antifungal cream twice daily in the area. Allergy?: One of my patients calls this "pump bumps"; the surrounding area is itchy, red, and sometimes sore, but not infected, and it goes away a couple of days after changing sites. I am still looking for the cause; it's not the adhesive (though it could be in your case). You might consider trying another infusion set if changing adhesives doesn't work.
