Any pain/discomfort.: You don't say if you're having pain or discomfort from this. If you're having pain then this could be another type of infection, including thrush. Many causes: There are many different potential causes for sore throats. While strep throat and mono are two of the most famous causes, there are many other more common viral (and some less common bacterial) infections which can cause sore throat. Multiple causes: There is some important information missing. How old is your child? Is there joint swelling or just pain? Has he been on any medications? If he has been on medications particularly sulfa or penicillin antibiotics it may be an immune reaction. There is lyme disease which causes arthritis(swelling) and a rash as well as rheumatic fever which follows a strep infection by at least two weeks. ...Read more

Strep throat: Most sore throats are due to viruses which won't respond to antibiotics. Strep throat, as proven by rapid Strep test or throat culture will respond to antibiotics but typically, all you need is Penicillin, not broad-spectrum Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate). Seriously......: These situations require a patient to be personally seen by a physician. Not even the best website\internet service\health care website\diagnostic health software\ computer\ best physician can replace the conventional doctor\patient relationship necessary in order to come up with an accurate diagnosis.
