Any pain/discomfort.: You don't say if you're having pain or discomfort from this. If you're having pain then this could be another type of infection, including thrush. Multiple causes: There is some important information missing. How old is your child? Is there joint swelling or just pain? Has he been on any medications? If he has been on medications particularly sulfa or penicillin antibiotics it may be an immune reaction. Strep throat: Most sore throats are due to viruses which won't respond to antibiotics. Strep throat, as proven by rapid Strep test or throat culture will respond to antibiotics but typically, all you need is Penicillin, not broad-spectrum Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate).
