PPI: Proton pump inhibitor. This class of medications typically works the best for reflux disease. It is advisable over to use this for about three months, and then try and wean yourself off and see how the symptoms are. Do this with the knowledge of your primary care provider. They might need to send you for more tests should medication fail. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Can Ranitidine help with belching possibly from GERD.

Can Ranitidine help with belching possibly from GERD.

Sure: Ranitidine (Zantac (ranitidine)) can help with the symptoms of GERD. Excessive belching is a symptom of GERD. However, if you have no relief from belching after using Zantac (ranitidine) for a week or two, please consider other causes for belching like indigestion, hiatal hernia, H. Pylori infection/gastritis, or even IBS. Antacids can help with indigestion. Follow up with your internist/GI doc if symptoms worsen. ...Read more

Baking soda: If cost is an issue, and your are already taking 300mg of generic Zantac (ranitidine) a day, then you could occasionally try taking a level teaspoon of baking soda in about two ounces of water for further relief. This is a home remedy that has worked well of decades, but is not promoted in standard medical practice. That said you should be evaluated asap by a gastroenterologist to determine the cause of sx. ...Read more

I'm taking Gaviscon for gerd, i've also got ranitidine but i'm scared of side effects, will it be ok....?

Gaviscon: Gaviscon contains two drugs , both of which are not absorbed into your system. The usual side effects with multiple use may be constipation or diarrhea (it depends). Ranitidine on the other hand is absorbed and reduces your stomach's production of acid. Side effects are minimal but you should discuss any other medications you are taking with these two for possible drug interactions. ...Read more

Is it recommended to take Prilosec in the morning and Zantac (ranitidine) at night for complete acid relief of GERD?

Is it recommended to take Prilosec in the morning and Zantac (ranitidine) at night for complete acid relief of GERD?

See your doctor.: If you are initially treating presumed acid reflux, Prilosec 20 mg once each morning about 20 minutes before eating any food is a good start. If it does not completely relieve your symptoms after two weeks, however, or if they recur after stopping the Prilosec, then I would seek out treatment long term through your family doctor. Anti-reflux measures are important too. Good luck. ...Read more

Can i take omeprazole and Zantac (ranitidine) extra strength pill together since the omeprazole doesn't work much with my gerd?

Yes, but chk it out: You can use both medications if you need them to control your significant gerd/reflux trouble, but i would advise checking it out with your doc to see why you are having such bad reflux. An infection such as helical pylori causing gastritis/ulcers? Hiatal hernia? Nonulcerative dyspepsia? Minimize alcohol, caffiene, and minty/spicy foods n don't eat before bed. Don't smoke. Consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more
