Ranitidine And Antacids
I have an ulcer and had the breathing test for h. Pylori bacteria. Will it show negative if i had taken an antacid Zantac (ranitidine) and maalox that morning?
It may: Zantac (ranitidine) has been shown to affect breath h.Pylori test, although, not to the same degree as proton pump inhibitors (prilosec, Prevacid and their ilk). Zantac (ranitidine), pepcid, tagamet must be withheld for at least 48-72 hours prior to that that. Maalox is ok to take. ...Read more

Just about 27 weeks preg. Can i take Zantac (ranitidine) 75? I eat wayyy more than the recomended amout of Tums a day.
GERD Reflux: Use of zantac (ranitidine) or Prilosec are fine during pregnancy. You may find better control of symptoms by routinely using these medications rather than waiting for symptoms to occur. If over the counter medications do not address your symptoms, there are also several reflux medications that can be prescribed as well. ...Read more
Suffers from chronic acid reflux.takes 6 tums a day- but it only relieves the issue for an hour. Tried Zantac (ranitidine) but didn't help much. get scoped?
Yes: Hi. I'm sorry you're having such bad heartburn. You may have something more serious going on (infection, ulcers, etc). You might need to see a gastroenterologist for further diagnostic evaluation. OTC omeprazole is more efficacious than ranitidine. But yes, you can take TUMS (calcium carbonate) with Zantac. Good luck! ...Read more

Zantac, (ranitidine) tums, and cimetidine have done nothing for my wife's pains. What else could it be besides acid reflux?
Depends: It really depends what sort of pains are going on. You didn't describe location, quality, intensity, timing...Anything at all. ...Read more

Hi, so taking too many tums for heartburn is not good but also taking otc zantac (ranitidine) for periods longer than 14 days is not good. What other meds are safe?
The PPIs.: OTC medications like Prilosec or Prevacid (lansoprazole) are stronger than what you have been taking. But the fact remains that if your symptoms are not relieved after a week or two of medication you need to see a doctor to confirm your diagnosis and see if any formal investigative testing may be needed. ...Read more

My doctor has changed my meds to zantac (ranitidine). And it's not getting rid of terrible burning in my chest can I take something like Tums as well?
GERD meds: What med were u on before? Did it relieve your symptoms better than zantac (ranitidine)? Can use otc antacids temporarily, but should see doc again & report lack of relief with new med. Might try doubling the dose (after discussing w/ doc or ask for a proton pump inhibitor like Prilosec or prevacid. Avoid food triggers, too, until condition much improved; then add them gradually. ...Read more
I have really bad heartburn and my roads are flooded. I have tums (calcium carbonate) and expired ranitidine. Which will help the heartburn most effectively and immediate?
Will taking Tums or Zantac (ranitidine) 150 with Advil help prevent stomach irritation/upset caused by Advil?
PPI is better: Over-the-counter proton pump inhibitors like Prilosec (omeprazole) or Nexium (esomeprazole) can protect the stomach from non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like Advil (ibuprofen)/Aleve (naproxen). H2 blockers like Zantac (ranitidine)/Pepcid (famotidine) at double dose are less effective, & protect only the duodenum, not the stomach. Antacids like Tums (calcium carbonate) are inadequate for this purpose. ...Read more
