Contact allergy?: If the problem is confined to the hands and wrists, then a contact allergy should be suspected (soap. Lotion, latex gloves, chemicals). Topical hydrocortisone cream may help but avoidance is the only answer. May consult a dermatologist if problem persists since patch skin test may well reveal the culprit. ...Read more

Can't tell: However early shingles may start with itching before the bumps turn dark and painful. Google a picture of dermatome and see if your lesions follow any of the dermatome pattern. If it does, early anti-viral treatment may reduce the intensity and complication of shingles. However if you have had the same lesions b4 at the same location, shingles would be unlikely. ...Read more

Cud b d hand: The changes you describe do not seem to be associated with anything worrisome as far as I can tell. It certainly could fit changes consistent with repeated and vigorous rubbing from the use of something such as a hand. Try stopping that activity for a while longer and see if your clit and hood clear up. If not please see your doctor. ...Read more

Hard to know: A physician will need to examine and know more about your history. The description does seem consistent with dyshidrotic eczema, but biopsy may be warranted to rule out more serious alternatives. Cold compresses may help while awaiting evaluation. ...Read more

Hives: Hives can be an allergic reaction to food or medications. It is important to be evaluated by a physician to eliminate any potential causes and to be recommended appropriate oral antihistamines. Occasionally, oral steroids may be needed as well. If the hand blisters are on the palm, it could represent a severe allergic reaction known as erythema muliforme. You should see a physician quickly. ...Read more

Cold Urticaria: Cold urticaria is an allergy where hives (urticaria) form after exposure to cold. The welts are usually itchy and the hands and feet will be itchy and swollen. Hives vary in size from about 7 to 25mm diameter or larger. The disease is classified as chronic when hives persist longer than 6 wks. A form of dermatitis: There are a few different conditions that may cause such a presentation. This could be due to an organism. But there are a variety of causes which could be due to eczema or a less common condition called pompholyx. It can be challenging to diagnose in a clinical presentation, so I'm thinking the blisters should be cultured and biopsied. Some rx's usually include a topical steroid. ...Read more

Recently, I have just noticed a bump/lump on the back of my hand/wrist. It's been itchy since last night. Is this anything to worry about?

Ganglion--no problem: Most likely, this is a ganglion, which is a fluid filled cyst. It is very common and usually is left alone. If it continues to cause pain or symptoms it can be aspirated (fluid sucked out), ruptured (usually injected with numbing medication and steroid to cause it to rupture), or removed surgically. These have approximate long term success rates of 60%, 85%, and 95%, respectively. ...Read more

I have extremely itchy wrists and back of hands. Also, my wbc count is elevated. Could these symptoms be related?

Swollen wrist and hand and allergy type of lesions on the hands and on the other parts of body and lesions very itchy and swollen abit. What is this?

Can't tell: Most skin lesions require a direct examination and often a biopsy to get a diagnosis. One also needs to get a detailed history on agents used on the body. In the case of dermatitis involving the hands, irritants (frequent hand-washing, organic solvents...) are the likely culprit but contact allergen may play a role as well. In your case, contact allergy is likely since it is not confined to hands. ...Read more

I have red bumps on my both handas nd wrist and now it is spreading my other hand. They are not itchy, different sizes. Don't think allergic reaction?

Hand rash: Diagnosing a rash without a picture is very difficult, and what you're describing can be many things. We think in broad categories - like an allergic reaction to something you might have come in contact with (sometimes hard to remember exact thing), a mild eczematous reaction (even if it doesn't itch), a fungal infection, bug bites. Let your doc know if it's getting worse! ...Read more
