We are surgeons with special interest and experience in treating cancer. Most do not give chemotherapy. Medical oncologists typically start with internal medicine and then subspecialise. Residents are physicians - they have an md or do degree & a limited license. They do treat patients but again are under the supervision & ultimate authority of a doctor that has completed training.
