Can rabies dog bite pass through jeans? I was bitten by my dog but there aren't any holes in my jeans but there is a wound.

Low risk, but...: Most likely the rabies virus would not be transmitted through cloth, if the cloth wasn't penetrated. However, you must not take the chance. According to WHO, the Philippines is one of the top 10 countries in rabies frequency. If your dog was not vaccinated against rabies and if there is any doubt about the dog's health, contact health authorities and see your doctor ASAP for professsional advice. ...Read more

Dog bite me but the wound is super shallow and did not puncture skin. It really looks like nothing. Should I be concerned for rabies for anything?

Dog bite me but the wound is super shallow and did not puncture skin. It really looks like nothing. Should I be concerned for rabies for anything?

Probably not: If there is no open wound (i.e. it didn't puncture the skin) then it's unlikely that you would have contracted rabies. If the dog is a pet of yours or someone you know, you can find out if they're up to date on their shots. If not (but they are someone's pet), usually you just watch the dog for symptoms of rabies. Call animal control for full guidelines, if you're worried see MD. ...Read more

If I got a dog bite, how likely is it that I will get rabies?

Hard to say.: One cannot easily do studies to measure this but it seems like perhaps a third or so of those bitten will get rabies if nothing is done. Higher risk when bitten on the face by the rabid dog. Of course, the risk of getting rabies is zero if the dog doesn't have it. ...Read more
