I was bit by a (2 month old)stray cat 8 months ago (in India), couldn't take rabies shot then, can I take them now? Could I still get rabies?
Take the vaccine now: The incubation period averages 1 to 2 mo but may be >1 yr. May still be worthwhile giving the vaccine even though quite late. Chances are the cat was not rabid but never delay vaccines when indicated. And if in doubt always consult a local doctor or your own in the US. Good luck! ...Read more
I got bitten by my 1month 20 days old puppy. Bite was on the side of my thumb, do I need to take the anti-rabies shots?
Dog got excited & nipped me when fed treat, drew blood. 2 years old and vaccinated as puppy but overdue for booster. Should I worry about rabies?
My 8wk old house puppy nipped at me on left arm. No broken skin, no blood just small tooth mark. Cleaned wound, etc. Rabies? Pup 2 young for shots.
Rabies: Rabies is extremely rare nowdays in the us, especially as a result of dog bites. If there was any risk of rabies, it would be from street dogs, but it doesn't sound like your puppy is a street dog. Also, rabbit dogs would normally be expected to act accordingly. Your case doesn't allude to that. I'd not worry about rabies, but would definitely watch the wound as it is prone to infection. ...Read more

Could my toddler have rabies from a puppy that jumped on him and may have scratched him months ago at a local pet supply store? The puppy was normal.
My 1 month puppy has bitten me. Is there any risk of rabies. Also I had taken rabies vaccine 3 yrs ago so will it protect me from rabies.
Hard to say: You get 2 years of dependable protection from the rabies series, with less thereafter. It might be enough for a true exposure, but they advise boosters or blood test after 2 yrs for high risk workers. If the 1 mo puppy was not exposed to the possibility of a bite from an infected outside animal, I wouldn't worry about it. ...Read more
My puppy tooth scratch my skin and leave a tiny scar about 0.2cm in size. Do I need to get a shot again for rabies? My last shot less than 6 month ago
Is your puppy:
Up to date with his immunizations? Rabies vaccine are only necessary with bites that are high risk for transmission of Rabies. A scratch on the skin by your own puppy that can be observed if at all necessary, hardly qualifies. You would not of course keep a rabid dog as a pet? Visit with a vet to secure his health and enjoy your puppy!

Stray puppy (USA) jumped on my leg scratched/maybe bit me. I had rabies vaccine 8 months ago. Should I get it again for this encounter?
Likely safe: The protective benefit of the rabies vaccine is expected to last for at least 2 years from the time you complete the series. If your exposure is within that time frame you are likely protected. Be aware that there are several other potential germs that can cause an infection from a bite, and close monitoring is advised. ...Read more
Got scratched by puppy trying to climb on me. To young to have shots. Didn't peirce skin. Any concern for rabies?
Highly improbable: Unless this puppy had been bitten by a rabid animal there is virtually no way that it could be infected, and furthermore a scratch, absent saliva on it, is very unlikely to transmit the rabies virus in the event it was present. If this was an unprovoked attack and bite, then might be concerned. ...Read more
In africa. For fun, I adopted a puppy last week, but it was vaccinated against rabies yesterday. Any rabies risks from what appeared a healthy dog?
Depend on where/what: Are there public or private initiatives to vaccinate feral or stray dogs in the area? Did the veterinarian see any signs of rabies? Is the puppy biting you or breaking your skin? Please gather that information and share with physicians there or here (add to comments) so that you can receive helpful information. ...Read more
Hi! My son had his anti rabies booster dose on june 2015. A week after, he was bitten by our vaccinated puppy. Does he needs another series of shots?
No: Three things. A properly vaccinated dog is not a rabies risk to anyone. A person with a proper primary and booster series for rabies is considered protected from any rabies exposures for two years from the date of the booster. There are other germs that can complicate a bite, so proper wound care and monitoring is important. ...Read more
A countryside puppy with no anti-rabies shot, played with my kid, he wasn't bitten, I'm afraid that he might touch its saliva, should I be concerned?
Puppy scrached me. Acting normal, not around wild animals. In cage outside in the mornings. Chance of rabies? Have a phobia of that. Seeing therapis 4it
A puppy with no anti-rabies shot, bit me in my thumb just below the nail. Is that enough to give me rabies?
Could be!: It would depend on where the puppy had been and what it had been exposed to. If it had come in contact with a rabid animal or carcass, or other rabid animal, and licked, chewed or faught with it, then you could get the rabies virus infection. You should quarantine the animal for 2 weeks, or have animal control do it and notify them immediatly and seek advise on rabies shots. Rabies is deadly! ...Read more
Sister got a new puppy and while playing she nipped at me and left a small red mark on skin. Rabies? Hasn't had shots b/c she's too young.
My puppy is too young for rabies shot. Scratched me on the neck while playing. I didn't bleed and don't see marks. He's healthy. What should I do?
Her thin short was licked by her puppy in her crotch when she was asleep. Could she get rabies? She had underwear also
No: You can't catch rabies from an animal unless it is also affected. Licking is unlikely to transmit the virus in any case. It would be a sad world indeed for pet owners if being licked put their owners in danger. House animals don't just carry rabies, but must acquire it (say, being bitten by a wild animal); most are immunized in any case. ...Read more
What are the chances of my puppy getting rabies saliva on his paws/nails and then scratching me hours later and me getting infected?
Cat overdue for rabies vaccine. Outdoor cat, scratches puppy sometimes. If puppy bites me when playing, should I be concerned? Vaccinate cat and self?
See below: So rabies is transmitted through saliva, not a scratch. However, it would be very wise of you to get both the cat and puppy (when old enough according to the vet) vaccinated for rabies and maintain that vaccine as recommended (rabies is devastating to them too). The puppy nipping at you is not likely to give you rabies. You don't need to be vaccinated unless you're bit by an unknown animal. ...Read more
Might be silly but my puppy got his Rabies vaccine on Tuesday. Is the vaccine a live virus? If he bit me, could he possibly infect me with Rabies?
Not live vaccine: No questions are silly and u shd not hesitate to ask! Rabies vaccine is not a live but killed virus vaccine. Chances of having Rabies in a puppy to infect you especially in California is remote! However if u remain worried for any reason best would be to have ur doctor talk to the state health department and discuss local conditions. Latter will give u very appropriate advice. ...Read more

I was bitten by my 3-month old kitten. Do you think I might get rabies? What do cat bites looks like? Do they look more like a puncture or a scratch?
Cat bites: If your kitten has not been exposed to rabies, a bite from that kitten will not transmit rabies. If the skin was broken or scratched, wash thoroughly with lots of soap and water. Watch for redness, swelling or oozing. Skin infections are much more likely than rabies and can be serious. ...Read more

My two year old is getting a rabies vaccination tomorrow 6 days after cat bite. Has it been to long? And is it safe for toddlers? Can she get rabies?
My 6 1/2 mo old ped. Felt his anterior fontanel but says that it might be closing early than usual. Should I be worried? Or is this normal @ his age?
Follow closely..: It is a bit early for the skull to fuse, but unless he has had a head MRI or ct to assess exactly how open or closed they are, I would not panic. If his head shape is normal and symmetric, if head size is increasing along appropriate percentiles, development is normal, then I would put my mind at ease. However, these parameters, including head size and shape, need to be monitored monthly for now. ...Read more
