Malar rash, photo sensitivity, joint pain, general feeling of being ill, etc., but negative ANA and RA factor. Any ideas as to what it could be?

Malar rash, photo sensitivity, joint pain, general feeling of being ill, etc., but negative ANA and RA factor. Any ideas as to what it could be?

Suspicious for SLE: Sounds suspicious for systemic lupus erythematosus if you have any 4 out of 11 diagnostic criteria. Negative ANA does not necessarily exclude the possibility of sle. what is important is to put the current symptoms into an overall context that includes blood tests, duration of symptoms, other illnesses, and medications, and to develop a treatment plan based on the total information. See a rheumat. ...Read more

Question I am 5 weeks out of right foot surgery and my foot has a "cold feeling" and numb still. I have RA and had a joint/bone/cartilage replacement.

Question I am 5 weeks out of right foot surgery and my foot has a "cold feeling" and numb still. I have RA and had a joint/bone/cartilage replacement.

RA s/p foot surgery: The numbness can be from nerve irritation, nerve effects due to surgery as you cut and may cut some nerves when you replace bone or due to limited blood supply, The coldness can be due to blood supply interruption but that is more concerning as you need adequate supply. Call l the doctor today or go to ER , they can do dopplers and check blood supply, if toes are purple /black that is a emergency ...Read more

Sis diagnosis with RA then MALT NHL. Thymectomy, rcvd 2 doses of Rituxan (rituximab). Experiecing bad joint & bone pain, feet swelling and rash after. Will this go away?

Very complicated: Rituxan (rituximab) is a powerful drugs with many effects and side-effects. Yes those problems may be dose-related and may go away depending on the interval between doses, but may re-appear with subsequent doses. And this is assuming Rituxan (rituximab) is the cause. This problem includes the intersection of other drugs and the disease itself. Best left to discuss with your oncologist, especially if this all gets worse. ...Read more

My daughter is 14 suffering from joint pain. She has positive ana..Negatve ra...No rash...Doctors wont diagnose with jra because lack of warmth and swelling to joints. What else could be going on?

My daughter is 14 suffering from joint pain. She has positive ana..Negatve ra...No rash...Doctors wont diagnose with jra because lack of warmth and swelling to joints. What else could be going on?

Joint pain only: There is no blood test that can diagnose juvenile idiopathic arthritis. A positive ANA means nothing for the diagnosis of jia. Child must have joint swelling on exam or active synovitis on an MRI of the joint that must be done with IV contrast (mri without contrast cannot detect active arthritis unless it is advanced). Kids with suspected jia should be evaluated by a pediatric rheumatologist. ...Read more

How does RA contribute to the ankle tendonitis I am experiencing and why would tendonitis be in both ankles?

Chronic inflammation: Rhematoid arthritis will cause degenerative changes to the ankle joints resulting in the ankle functioning incorrectly. This will in turn cause overuse of the tendons surrounding the ankle joint and chronic inflammation. Injections of cortisone around the tendon can be helpful as well as antiiflammatories. An ankle brace would be helpful to stabilize the joint and orthotics to realign the joint. ...Read more
