Question I am 5 weeks out of right foot surgery and my foot has a "cold feeling" and numb still. I have RA and had a joint/bone/cartilage replacement.
RA s/p foot surgery: The numbness can be from nerve irritation, nerve effects due to surgery as you cut and may cut some nerves when you replace bone or due to limited blood supply, The coldness can be due to blood supply interruption but that is more concerning as you need adequate supply. Torn ankle tendon not healing. Mri shows possible anemia in bone marrow in ankle now being tested for ra. 36 y/i female, physically active. Ideas?
Needs more info: This makes no sense. First of all, what tendon is torn? No less than 10 tendons cross the ankle. Second, you can't see anemia on a MRI. You can see edema in the marrow of the bone which is characteristic of fracture or infection. By the way, one cigarrette causes vasoconstriction for 24 hours. Depends: There are a number if different causes, and so I would encourage you to be seen. Flat feet themselves can cause pain that may respond to an orthotic. It could also be related to your RA which can often involve the mid foot. It could be a neuropathy as well. See below: With ra, and in flare, you may need to be restarted on steroids again such as prednisone. Pain meds such as anti-inflammatory can help with pain in the meantime , however, you will need other meds that can acts like a maintenance medication, some are oral like methotrexate, some injectables like remicade (infliximab). Yes: 1/4 of RA patients have negative rf. Rheumatoid factor is just one indicator. Ra is a clinical diagnosis made by a rheumatologist. Although you may have ra, you are more likely to have other collagen vascular diseases like lupus with + ana; that have arthritis associated with them.
