Are Suboxone withdrawals better than roxy withdrawals?

Are Suboxone withdrawals better than roxy withdrawals?

Not necessarily: I have heard patients tell me that suboxone withdrawal is not as bad and have also heard it's worse. It depends on from how high of a dose one is stopping whatever opiate they've been taking. It is much easier and safer to try and gradually decrease the opiate dose until one is stopping from a very low dose and not a higher dose. The higher the dose, the worse the withdrawal when stopping. ...Read more

Would Ultram (tramadol) ease hydrocodone withdrawals?

Would Ultram (tramadol) ease hydrocodone withdrawals?

Controversial: There are studies on both sides of this issue, with some researchers finding that tramadol did reduce withdrawal, while others finding that it either did very little, or in some cases actually made it worse. A problem is that doses of ultram in the therapeutic range (300-400 mg/day) can cause seizures. My patients have told me mostly that ultram did very little for them, but a few got + results. ...Read more

Opiate withdrawal. Would tapering be a better solution to quitting the tramadol abrubtly?

Tapering is best: Tramadol is a synthetic opiate with weak Mu opiate agonist activity and some re-uptake inhibition of norepinephrine and serotonin. In translation: it acts like a weak narcotic AND antidepressant at the same time. It has a long half life: 7 hours. So it takes a while (4-5 half lives) to build up and to come out of the body.
