Quitting Oxycodone Cold Turkey
How long does it take withdrawals from stopping oxycodone to go away when you quit cold turkey 5 days now?
I took oxycodone 560-100 mg daily. Detoxing 14 days now. Cold turkey. What makes the symptoms more tolerable? I'm dying here!
Not wise to do: While it's admirable that you want to remove opiates from your body, going cold turkey is never advised. Ideally, a slow wean over a few weeks, depending on how much your were on, along with some low dose Valium and/or catapres (clonidine) would allow you to feel better during the process. ...Read more
Would it b dangerous to stop doing 210mg of Oxycodone HCL daily (been using for 4 mths) cold turkey for 15-20 hours then take suboxone at hr 15-20?
See a doctor: You should have medical supervision and not try to do this on your own. If you take the Suboxone too soon, it can precipitate withdrawal. Also, if you have never taken the Suboxone, you need to be monitored during induction. You should see a doctor with experience in managing opiate withdrawal and familiarity with Suboxone maintenance therapy. ...Read more
I have been on liquid lortab 15ml and oxycodone 5mg every 4 hours for uppp and tonsils for ten days. Will I go thru withdrawal if I stop cold turkey?
Generally not: Everyone is different and react differently to acute withdrawal of narcotics. Generally 10 days is not enough to trigger an withdrawal rwction but narcotics and drugs like them have a physiologic as well as a psychological addiction/ dependence so the 2 may overlap but in general 10 days is short enough of a period that adverse reactions are unlikely. ...Read more

I am having trouble quitting oxycodone/suboxone. How long are these withdrawal symptoms supposed to last?
Quiting Opiates: Suboxone is used to help with addiction to opiates like oxycodone. Maybe you need to get yourself on a maintenance dose of Suboxone which you can then slowly taper off over time. In my experience, patients often will need to stay on Suboxone for about half the amount of time they abused opiates. So, if a person took oxycodone for 4-5 years, they may need the Suboxone for a couple of years. ...Read more

I've had a prescription for oxycodone for 5 years for back pain I quit taking them on the 10th if I took one today how long would it stay in my urine?
Less than a week: Typically this drug is not detectable by the urine drug screen after 4 to 5 days. It depends on the condition of your liver and if other drugs are present and competing for metabolism. It also depends on the sensitivity and specificity of the test itself. Hope this helps! ...Read more
Did you have problem: With oxycodone - like being addicted to it? When you say quitting (as opposed to stopping) that's what comes to mind. If you had problems with oxycodone, you are at great risk of similar problems with alcohol, if they do not exist already. If you are talking social drinking and don't have a history of alcohol or opiate problems, there is no risk after 24-48 hours of any interactions. ...Read more

Consult your doctor: Pain after bunion surgery is very normal. Often the pain can last for several days after surgery. You need to elevate your foot and keep it from being below your heart level. The pain medication you were prescribed is typical but there area other alternatives. Consult your surgeon to see if an alternative pain medication would be better for you. ...Read more

60% VA disabled for my back. I take hydrocodone 10-325 4x for pain daily. I quit drinking alcohol 3 years ago. I have moderate heptic steatosis, Liver 16.3 midclavicular line. Is this too much acetaminophen daily or ask for just Oxycodone, Age64?
Should be ok: Best thing for hepatic steatosis is weight loss and a low-fat diet. Congrats on quitting alcohol - that is a great step as well. You can ask your doctor about giving you a formulation of pain med with less acetaminophen if you're worried but as long as you do not go over 3 grams of acetaminophen from all sources, you should be ok. This is assuming you have normal liver enzymes and no cirrhosis. ...Read more
Consult: Please consult your physician to obtain clear instructions on when to take your medications. Symptoms usually dictate medication dose and schedule. Cause of pain?: It's important to find out what's causing your pain, and decide on a treatment plan with your doctor. Oxycodone just masks the pain. Physical therapy or non-narcotic meds may be better for you. It's easy to get "hooked" on oxycodone so that you need more and more to get the same effect. That can lead to trouble. See a doctor who specializes in pain management. ...Read more

Pill mills: Florida was until recently the King of Pill Mills, with some areas, particularly in the south, having dozens of these near the airports and elsewhere. The governor finally signed on to a bill which limited them, and many of them have been closed, and many doctors and nurses disciplined and even charged criminally. Ask your doctor to call the pharmacist -- many of them are understandably leary. ...Read more
Support care + meds.: Supportive care and use of Clonidine is essential for control of acute symptoms ie anxiety, sweating, agitation etc. Use of subutex (opiate agonist/antagonist) can also be considered and more so for long term maintenance.
