I'm on bactrim and everytime I smoke it makes me feel really nauseous, should I quit while I'm taking the medication?
Good question: Your question should be, what is more important, your health or your need to smoke. This symptom of nausea is a wake up call TO STOP SMOKING forever and continue to take the Bactrim to rid yourself of the infection. I know it can be hard to stop smoking, but as is said the journey of a long life starts with the first step and that step is to stop smoking to avoid cancer & lung disease. ...Read more

White spots on the tongue with some redness upper left gum Is it possible to have symptoms of oral cancer after quiting smoking after 1 year or can antibiotics cause this just finished bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim)?
Sounds like thrush: Yes oral cancer can occur after quitting tobacco. But congratulations on quitting. It's always one of the very best things anyone can do for their health. Oral cancer would be expected to have a single lesion, not multiple spots. Your description sounds like thrush, which is common after antibiotics. But the only way to know is to have an oral exam by your medical doctor or dentist. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Conflicted on if it is okay to have a couple beers while on bactrim. Will I be okay? No hard liquor.
How long does it take folliculitis to respond to antibiotics? I have been taking Bactrim twice a day and I'm on day 4 with no improvement.
I was just diagnosed with ca-mrsa and I'm scared since it is often resistant to drugs. I just started bactrim ds tonight. What are the chances of it not responding to any drug? How can you know if it's caught early enough? Thank you!
Partially resistant: Ca MRSA is not particularly worse than having regular staph infection. It is not related to the flesh eating bacteria scare. The choice of antibiotics is limited, but generally the infection is sensitive to at least a few of the mainstream antibiotics of which Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is one. If your doctor thought you were at great risk you would not be at home. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Gonorrhea treatment: Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim®) is not recommended or reliable against gonorrhea. It might work but is dangerously risky; you need proper gonorrhea treatment with an injection of ceftriaxone plus either azithromycin or doxycycline. Contact your doctor immediately to arrange treatment. Also make sure all recent (1-2 mo.) sex partners are tested and treated. Good luck! ...Read more
I have had to take Bactrim DS for a week and I have heard you can easily get Steven-Johnson Syndrome after taking it. How likely is that to occur?
Neither actually: If you are talking about a group a strep infection, such as strep throat, an antibiotic in the penicillin family (penicillin, amoxicillin, etc.) is the preferred treatment. Otherwise a cephalosporin such as Cephalexin (keflex) is a good alternative. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Bactrim ds 800.2x daily for cellulitis. How long before improvement. I'm on day 3. If I were to have an allergic reaction would I know by now.? Ty
Yes,: However, there are still chances of developing allergic reaction later, but would be small and mild as time goes by. Regarding improvement, it depends on site, size, general condition, drugs used, etc, in general, if no improvement after few days, the management plan should be revisited, best wishes ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
How long after starting bactrim will it take for a uti to clear up? I'm going on day 3 and it still feels like my bladder isn't emptying completely.
Resistant germs: If you are not getting better from these antibiotics, I would worry about the germ being 'resistant'. This is an increasingly common problem these days- for multiple reasons... I would DEFINITELY check back with the doc who ordered the medication-hopefully they did a urinary culture, which would serve as a guide to the best therapy. You should be better by now. I would drink LOTS of water too ...Read more
