Preparing a quit-smoking plan and enlisting support from your doctor and your loved ones can greatly improve your chances of success. Your doctor can help you decide if over-the-counter or prescription medications can help. Pick a quit day a few weeks ahead and put it on your calendar. Plan how you're going deal with situations that make you want to smoke. Take advantage of support from family, friends, and co-workers, and consider joining a smoking cessation program so that you don't ...Read more
No: I presume you are asking if smoking can prevent weight gain. Avoiding weight gain is used by many people as a justification for smoking. But you have to gain 100 pounds to have the same risks as smoking two packs a day. While you smoke less than this, there is no question that smoking is way worse for you than gaining even a few pounds. Please focus on quitting tobacco! ...Read more
I'm trying to quit by smoking during the day and using nicotine patches at night. Is this going to work?
Depends: Start with the number your currently smoking and every 2-3 days leave another one off. I would prefer to see you throw them away now as you are not addicted to tobacco leaf but to nicotine. Eliminate all of the pollutants by getting nicotine products and wean off of these. The most successful stoppers are those that throw out all ash trays and triggers to smoke essential oils are very helpful. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Cold turkey.: As far as quitting without any nicotine replacement, the cold turkey method is great. But plan it ahead of time. Pick a quit date in advance, maybe a meaningful date like a birthday or holiday, and gather people who are aware of your attempt that you can call upon for moral support if you start to falter. Good luck!! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Wound healing and smoking. Can we smoke at lease three ciggrate per day while wound healing process.?
Cigar Smoking: Cigars, like cigarettes, contain nicotine, the substance that can lead to tobacco dependence. A single full-size cigar can contain as much nicotine as do several cigarettes. If you inhale cigar smoke, you can get as much nicotine as if you smoked cigarettes. And even if you don't inhale, large amounts of nicotine can be absorbed through the lining of your mouth. Not safer! ...Read more
Yes!!!: Congratulations on quitting! back in june, a study was published demonstrating that the longer one stops smoking, the better. Can drinking 5 to 6 cups of tea be bad for my health I am 21. Quit smoking jan 13. Pack a day smoker since i was 17. This is my first time quitting cold turkey. Feel confident about things this time. Quit coffee too. But picked up this habit of drinking t
Congratulations : Congratulations on quitting smoking! that's probably the single best thing you can do to make a positive impact on your health. As far as the tea goes, as long as your 5-6 cups a day are about 8 oz a piece, there shouldn't be any problems. The main issue with tea is that it contains caffeine and other compounds that can act as diuretics making you urinate more and can be dehydrating. Uncaffeinated and decaffeinated teas cause less of a problem. Tea also contains half the caffeine as coffee so by quitting coffee you are consuming less caffeine which helps. The other issue many people have with tea is that they add tons of sugar as a sweetener and end up drinking hundreds more calories a day leading to weight gain. This does not appear to be an issue for you which is good. If drinking your tea helps to keep you from smoking, then by all means, drink your tea! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

You're normal: Withdrawal from nicotine in tobacco typically takes from 2 to 4 weeks or longer, but varies a lot from person to person. There are physical parts -- dependence to nicotine, but also psychological (i want it now, my brain says), and social too (l want to smoke with friends). It's totally ok you don't have withdrawal. It's my 6th day on chantix when will it begin to work. I haven't reduced smoking, cigaretts taste the same. Tomorrow is my first day without smoking.
Was a smoker for 2 months where i smoked 4 cigs a day. Now i quit smoking day 3 cold turkey, any tips on how to continue?
Distract yourself: You were a light smoker, but could still be dependent on nicotine. Plus the daily routine of having a cigarette can be habit-forming - a psychological way to keep you doing it. The key is to teach yourself to get through the day. Cravings can be like hunger pains - wait awhile and they go away! so, make a list of things you can do instead of smoke. If it's hard, nicotine gum or lozenge can help. ...Read more
