Crystal light and water to drink and stay hydrated. If vomiting, diarrhea or bloody stools and recent travel outside US occurs, contact Pedi MD thru health tap. Can bacterial/acute gastroenteritis be transmitted to my girlfriend if i kiss her? I'm currently in the last stages of my treatment.

Difficult to tell: Bacterial gastroenteritis is an unusual disease in the usa. Far more likely viral. Either way, kissing would be an unusual means of transmission and would depend on so many variable factors that it would be very tough to determine the risks without knowing exactly what you had. ...Read more

I have had 7 infections so far this year, most viral like cold and gastroenteritis. I never need treatment. But I'm concerned I have immune problem?!

I have had 7 infections so far this year, most viral like cold and gastroenteritis. I never need treatment. But I'm concerned I have immune problem?!

Immunodeficiency: If you have had infections which resolved spontaneously it would be very improbable that they are due to some defect in immune function. Generally these would seldom resolve if your immune system was at fault. If you are concerned about HIV disease the best thing to do would be to go and be tested. If this is somatization and anxiety a therapist might be helpful. Good luck. ...Read more

If 23 year old male got 20 viral infections in 1 year.cold,gastroenteritis,sinusitis. All resolve without treatment, is it concern though ?

Immunodeficiency : On average, a person can get 5 or 6 colds and coughs per year. You're reporting 3 times that amount, so I suspect something is wrong. Chronic stress will weaken the immune system as will lack of sleep--but I think u need a formal evaluation to make sure there's nothing else seriously wrong. Obviously paying attention to hygiene should help- try hand washing frequently, avoid handshakes etc. ...Read more

Diagnosed with gastroenteritis & was given metronidazole & cipro, (ciprofloxacin)I'm getting itchy all over,I have been taking them for 3 days,I still need treatment ?

Call doctor: This is just the right time for drug allergy to develop. I suspect that Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is the more likely culprit. Stop the abx immediately and call your doctor for an alternate medication(s). ...Read more

What is more effective in PREVENTMENT/treatment of nausea and vomiting due to viral gastroenteritis? Metoclopramide or Zofran (ondansetron)?

What is more effective in PREVENTMENT/treatment of nausea and vomiting due to viral gastroenteritis? Metoclopramide or Zofran (ondansetron)?

Nausea~: hello~ Zofran is reserved for severe nausea that accompanies chemotherapy, so I would use something safer and first line like Compazine (prochlorperazine), (prochlorperazine) which would work better than metaclopamide, but metaclopamide can be used in mild cases. You will need to ask your doc for a script for Compazine (prochlorperazine). thanks ...Read more
