Can some one live with HIV for over 50 years/

Kenne heard about the HIV drugs that are taken once a year, can you please tell us about them?

Too soon to tell: The HIV epidemic started in the 1980's, so it will be the 2030's before the epidemic is 50 years old. Hopefully, there will be an effective vaccine or cure before then. Meanwhile, HIV is easily preventable because it is a virus that does not fly through the air and get you, nor does it sit on doorknobs waiting to jump on your hand. People usually have to do certain activities in order to get HIV. ...Read more

Podiatry question: is there anything i can do, short of surgery, for big-toe-bunions? Please e-mail me if you are so kind as to answer this question: [email address removed by avvo]

Treating bunions: There is no conservative treatment that will correct a bunion--so called bunion correction splints may ease some symptoms but will not "train" the toe to go straight. Wider shoes, a toe spacer, and tube foam are the most common ways to treat the pain and discomfort. Try those things to see if you can put off surgery for a while (or avoid it altogether!). ...Read more

Please answer! what questions should ask some one you believe has a drug problem?

Express Concern: First, there is little you can do that is effective unless the communications are about what you see and what you feel. Expressing concern and being nonjudgmental is a good start. Having everyone in the family or social circle saying the same message is vital. If the addict, who is sick with the disease of addiction, chooses to ignore then one cannot control or change that decision. Al-anon! ...Read more

What would be a good way to bring awareness to doctors who should know more about a certain condition in their field without offending them? :)

Assertiveness skills: This is difficult in few words, but i'll try. It really helps to have the most possible sincere respect - lacking that, perhaps a change in dr will be needed. How about: "i know you have many things to keep up with in (their field), but i heard about x and i wondered what you think about it. It sounds like it might be useful for (my condition). Would you be willing to look into it for me?" ok? ...Read more

I'm going to a pelvic floor physical therapy for the first time. Would she knew what PGAD is if I talk to her about it? Do they deal with this issue

What are some good questions to ask the neuro-opthalmologist about my 17 month old's diagnoses of Acquired Nystagmus? Any tests to request besides MRI

Don't request MRI: Let the doctor make the decisions about testing. That's why you're going to a doctor in the first place. You're not going to a restaurant and ordering off a menu. It's not about what YOU want, it's about what's best for your son. Let the doctor decide on the appropriate diagnostic algorithm. What do you advise if I'm interested in asking some questions about homeopathy, about the proprietary medicines as well as the pills that we obtain when we visit?

Homeopathy: Classical Homeopathy does not have "proprietary medicines." Homeopathic medicines are single medicines made from substances found in nature, and have usually had provings done on them to catalog the symptoms they can help. Your homeopath will provide you the information s/he feels will support your healing, if you ask. Some may not want to tell the specific remedy until the results are clear. ...Read more

IVF is best: The safest from a medical and legal aspect is to use a third party egg where the surrogate has no genetic link to the conception and is inseminated with sperm (ivf). The egg-sperm can come from you (the intended parents) or from a donor egg-sperm. At 40, would I need fertility treatment to get pregnant ?

Maybe: Fertility declines from a peak of 170 births/1000 women at age 27 to 13/1000 at age 40. Thus, advanced age is a significant fertility issue. However, not everyone needs help. See a fertility specialist for assessment (fsh, amh, antral follicle count) and if favorable then try 3-6 mo. If unfavorable then get help now before too late. Once fertility poor we cannot help using your eggs. Good luck. ...Read more
