Itchy red pustules on scalp after going to hair salon 6 yrs ago.Now all over body except face.Allergy or follicultis.Allergy meds & prednisone no help?
Scalp is the part of the skin on the skull, deeply attached to the skull and has the hair shafts from it.Rest of the skin in the head like facial skin(beard) has only 2 layers -epidermis and dermis. My 3 y old child have multiple pustules & boils on face & scalp since 1 wk, baby is otherwise well. Other child in house have similar s & s. Diagnosis?
I have some soft some hard scalp pustules that scab over They started out only as small pimples when the condition started.No itching!

Is it acne in my scalp or something else? I have acne like places through out my scalp. They itch and do form pustules. I was on doxyciclin for four months. It calmed the the condition but didn't cure it. When i got off of the doxy the places came back. I
Acne : Acne can occur on the scalp. We also sometimes call it folliculitis--inflammation (or occasionally infection) of hair follicles. Doxycycline is a commonly prescribed antibiotic for both acne and folliculitis. Another course of the same could be done and then followed by a topical antibiotic solution like clindamycin. There are no good options for otc treatment--shampoos, etc. Rarely allergic reactions to medications can present as pustules in the scalp.
