Specific picture.: Somethings just can't be evaluated without actually seeing the issue at hand. I fear that this is one of them. Randomly occurring skin discolorations are sometimes impossible to explain, let along come up with a treatment plan. Kicked: This certainly sounds like a deep bruise , especially when you describe the color changes . Ice and nsaids if you can take them will help as will rest . Bruises can turn all sorts of colors as the blood is broken down by enzymes that leaked from broken blood vessels ...Read more

Many possibilities.: Hard to say without a photo, but it could actually be a bruise. I'm assuming it appeared recently, so it's not a birthmark. Other possibilities include an insect or spider bite, an allergy to something he/she came in contact with, or a focal infection. If Hydrocortisone had no effect, i would recommend an examination by a dermatologist. ...Read more

You should: Any purple spots if they are bigger than 1-2 mm or more than 5-10 in number, raises questions about your blood having some problem. Unless these have have faded away and there are no new ones coming up, you should seek medical examination. ...Read more

New skin lesion: A new lesion that arises and has been present for two weeks raises the probability that this is trauma related. It could possibly be caused by clothing, or shoes, or even a bug bite.
