It could be: Viral pharyngitis or non strep bacterial phayngitis. Tonsillar abcess needs to be ruled out. Again you need rapid strep test to rule out strep throat. 2 different issues: A lump at the back of your throat might easily be a lymph node. If it has been there a while and isn't changing it probably needs to be biopsied to prove its not cancer. You don't state risk factors such a alcohol and tobacco exposure. The thyroid nodule is in front and would have to metastasize to the node. 1-2cm 10% risk. ...Read more
