Probably not: Back pain is not a common side effect of 6mp. I would look for an alternative source for your pain. Crohns can cause arthritis in your back. Typically this is lower back and sacrum pain. ...Read more

Anomalies were even more frequent when this drug was used for inflammatory bowel disease (unclear if disease or drug effect). 2nd/3rd trimester exposure may cause low birth weight and poor immune function. Spinal headache: Spinal headaches can occur after lumbar punctures and are associated with headache when standing. They usually resolve after a few days, but occasionally persist due to leakage of CSF from the puncture site. Our practice is to treat these with IV caffeine and IV hydration and if not better then rarely our anesthesiologist places a "blood bandage" using the patient's blood to plug the hole. ...Read more

Generally yes: Mercaptopurine or 6-mp (and related azathiprine, aza) are sometimes used in the treatment of ibd - they have been assigned to pregnancy category d by the fda, since early reports of receiving 6-mp in the first trimester appeared to have an increased incidence of abortions. However recent studies concluded that aza and 6-mp are safe and well tolerated during pregnancy. See your OB md for advice. ...Read more

Yes: Alcohol depletes serotonin making Celexa (citalopram) not work. Alcohol causes diahrea and irritates your bowel (you apparently have inflamatory bowel problem from your meds) do you think a few hours of alcohol high is worth days to weeks of agony from ibs and depression? ...Read more
