Rhythm Method Of Birth Control (Definition)

Calendar Method. The calendar (rhythm method) is considered the least reliable of fertility awareness methods. Women who have very irregular periods may have even less success with this method. In the calendar method, the woman first keeps a record of her menstrual periods for about 6 - 12 months. She then subtracts 18 days from the shortest and 11 days from the longest of the previous menstrual cycles. For example, if a woman's shortest cycle was 26 days and her longest cycle was 30 days, she must abstain from intercourse from day 8 through day ...Read more

Forgot to take my birth control pill (Yaz) & I was 20 hours late. Besides contraception issues, how bad is it for my health to take it that late?

Forgot to take my birth control pill (Yaz) & I was 20 hours late. Besides contraception issues, how bad is it for my health to take it that late?

Take it Now: If you are late taking just 1 pill, it may not give you much trouble. Some women will experience breakthrough bleeding which is irregular bleeding in this cycle. It will definitely reduce your birth control efficacy. I always advise patients to use another form of birth control if they miss a pill. do not think in general they pose significant health issues. ...Read more

Smoking is dangerous: A visit to one's doctor can help, especially if the doctor knows of successful smoking cessation methods, medications, and programs, all of which may help a tobacco user wanting to go cold turkey (stop all use at once). For users with good planning skills and willpower, they can cut out a portion of their use (such as 1/3 or 1/2) every couple of weeks or so, and eventually get to zero use. ...Read more

Break through bleed: is common side effect of hormone contraception. In some cases the lining of the uterus gets thinned down too much, causing bleeding. Your doctor might advise you stop the pills , four days to allow the lining to thicken somewhat. Back up contraception, condoms for example till the next cycle/pill pack. Ask your doctor if this would work work for you? ...Read more

Can my GERD be exacerbated with the start of the first month of YAZ birth control?

Can my GERD be exacerbated with the start of the first month of YAZ birth control?

GERD and BCP's: Birth control pills (including "YAZ") contain less estrogen and progesterone than a normal cycle (i.e., without bcp's), and the occurrence of GERD is related to increased acid production and regurgitation of the acid into the throat, and is related to stress, anxiety, etc., and not caused by estrogen/progesterone in any form. ...Read more

I am 22 & on birth control pills (yaz) and have been for over a year. I have brown discharge mostly when I wipe. Is this normal? What should I do?

Common: This type of bleeding/discharge is common on the pill. The pill is still effective and this is more of a nuisance than a problem. The two options are to stay on this pill and see if it resolves or change pills. ...Read more

No: You have no break in your pill taking, so the new pill should protect you straightaway. Wondering why the switch to Yaz? Studies have indicated higher risk of thrombotic (deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism) side effects with Yaz. Hopefully, you concur with the switch. ...Read more

I have varicose venis on my leg. Can i take birth control pills "yaz"?

I have varicose venis on my leg. Can i take birth control pills "yaz"?

Birth control & vein: There are many risk factors for developing blood clots & the more risk factors that you have the higher the chance that you could develop a blood clot. Both hormonal birth control & varicose veins increase your risk for blood clots, so adding the 2 risks is worse than 1 risk alone. Best option is treating the varicose veins so that this risk no longer exists, making birth control less of an issue ...Read more

Is it true that certain birth control pills (ocella/yaz/yasmin) may be leading to gallbladder issues?

Controversial: Women have twice the risk for gallstones compared to men. Both estrogen and Progesterone increase the risk of gallstones. Several studies have reached conflicting conclusions, one canadian study that suggested a 20% increased risk in contrast to an english study where the risk was 10% lower compared to women not taking bcp. This suggests that if there is a risk, it is not clinically significant. ...Read more

How long after discontinuing birth control (yaz) before periods start again? Had 1 3 months later and none in 2 months. No chance of pregnancy.

Irregular cycles: Birth control pills are often used to regulate cycles. If this is the case you may not regulate. More likely though, you are in the peri menopausal period and may space your periods as you get to menopause. Menopause is defined as more than a year without periods. The time leading up to this is marked by irregular cycles. Hope this helps. ...Read more

Hi,: Weight gain and battling to lose it is a hard struggle. And the coc- combined oral contraceptive pill is notorious for being associated with this. ALl I can say is that somehow you need to balance what goes into your body (food) with how you exercise and what comes out (energy expenditure) and try to make sure that what goes in is healthy but less that what you expend and the weight loss should. ...Read more
