Go to the ER: I would imagine that you have been to the emergency room many times in the past. However, in a situation like this, I would not hesitate to order a CT scan of your head if you presented to my emergency room in order to make sure that you do not have hydrocephalus, which can be life-threatening. ...Read more

Not sure exactly: This sounds like what happens to me when I pay close attention. But usually I just go to sleep so don't notice it. Might possibly be related to your blood pressure, maybe some congestion in your ears or sinuses. Symptoms like these are best evaluated in person by your physician. Based on the findings, a treatment plan can be developed to help you. ...Read more

Possibilities: First of all check with your neurologist. There is usually some toxin, pathogen or allergen associated with a weird head sensation like your pulsating. Rule out any blood vessel as the cause of the head pulsating. Finally, rule out any infection at the occiput as the cause of either the pulsatiing or the cause of the anxiety. ...Read more
Can a pinched vertebral artery in your neck cause a pulsating sensation in or around your head of the other arteries?
Vertebral artery: No. A pinched (stenotic) vertebral artery may not have any symptoms if the opposite vertebral artery is large enough to carry the additional flow. When there is blockage of one vertebral artery and poor collateral flow from other arteries then the pinched vertebral artery can cause imbalance, spinning of the room (vertigo), and light headedness or fainting. ...Read more

I have/feel a slight pulsing sensation in the back of my head when I lie down at night. No other symptoms. Just want to know what's causing this.
Low Risk: When lying down to go to sleep, your muscles relax. Often when you're at the cusp of sleep you can feel your pulse in places that you usually would not otherwise. If it is painless then I would not worry. If it is associated with pain you need to be checked by your family physician. ...Read more

Hi, 35yr old male both sides of temple area I get a lot of pressure and can feel pulsating, gets worse while concentrating or focusing, no pain?
Arteries throb.: The temporal arteries and temporal veins lie immediately adjacent to each other. During exercise or increased activity, the arteries will pulsate because of increased heart rate and flow of blood. What you are seeing is the arterial pulsation. It looks like the vein pulsating because the vein sits over the artery and can move with the artery. See a vein specialist for an evaluation. ...Read more
